Could anyone advise me of the best way to seam shoulders of a jumper and to sew in the sleeves please.

This is a link to a contents page for an on-line knitting book (free). Chapters 17, 18, 19 and I think 21 are about seaming. There are nice pictures and text. Chapter 19 will pertain to your shoulder seams.
