i'm looking for a hat pattern similar to this slouchy beret style one

only much much more simple. i've been knitting for less than a year and crocheting for about a month. something simple where there isn't any fancy double crochet or purling just real straight forward knit knit knit single crochet single crochet single crochet etc....

does something like that even exist?

A similar hat pattern will have the cables and 'fancy' sts that are in this one. Or do you mean just the shape of this one? Felicity (ttp://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/felicity) is a simple one, all stockinette in the round.

For a hat you should do ribbing on the bottom mostly - so there will be knit and purl.

And you either need to increase or decrease...

So you will need a BIT more than just knits. But it is all doable and a good next step.

The Felicity-Link did not work on my PC here, so I googled it and found it here. (http://knitology.wordpress.com/2008/05/08/felicity-100/) maybe this will work.

Or maybe this one?

Signing up to ravelry if for free, so you might want to do that for patterns and info. Give it a try.

Also this one here (just knit all the stitches instead of the mesh-pattern)Garnstudio - Drops design (http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=107&d_id=15&lang=us)

round 1 would be then: knit all stitches. Round 2 would be the same.
or you learn the mesh pattern - not hard, really.
maybe that is something for your idea?

The hat I linked to has no ribbing, it's just stockinette so the edge curls up, but that makes a nice brim too. amala linked to a ravelry pattern, so I figured she was already there. Your Drops pattern link didn't work for me though it did when I copied it from Ravelry. Weird...

wow, a hat without ribbing ... that is rare, I think.

The garnstudio pattern is 107-15 (that may be easier than following the link, but here I link (http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=107&d_id=15&lang=us)again.

That linked worked for me, and now the first one does also. Must have been my computer hiccuping at the time.
