I have been making string market bags for my daughter ( she is going to give them to her co-workers as Christmas gifts)and I need a stitch pattern that will be flat (no cables) and no stretch in it. I have already used garter stitch for one bag, seed stitch for another bag, a variation of seed stitch , and double moss stitch for the last bag I have finished. Now I am ready to start the very last one to knit and I always start with the bottom first . What stitch pattern can I use that will be flat or slightly textured like the seed stitch so I will not have duplicate bags?

Try linen stitch.
