Ok i am wanting to learn crochet but by following a pattern. Learnt to knit same way. Went to crochet pattern central and found a pattern called cute and simple flower. Figured if i can do a simple flower id be well and trully moving along in my learning but has not been so. Got to the secound line and bam! a part of the pattern that when i think ive crocheted right doesnt seem right.

Round 1 (this line i feel i do fine) Ch 8 (not loosely), sl st in first chain to form lp.
Round 2 Ch1, work 12 sc in loop, finishing with a sl st in 1st sc. (Help! This line has me baffaled)

Its the 12 sc in loop.

Having done a granny square i have only done a double crochet in loop is it the same or is that where i am going wrong?

Yes, it's the same as dc the sts into the loop except you work them in sc. You'll get a little round medallion.
