View Full Version : Unraveling from the cast-on edge

I've read about people unraveling from the cast-on edge to lengthen a garment. I was under the impression that once you picked the cast-on loose, then it unraveled fairly easily, like frogging.
Apparently I'm wrong. :(
Am I missing something that would make this easier? Or is this just a tedious, not-so-fun thing to do?

It is a tedious, not-so-fun thing to do.
I've found if you just cut off the edge up to a row or two before you want to pick up the stitches, you save a lot of work. Run a life-line through the row where you want to start so you know when to stop picking.

It doesn't unravel as easily from the cast on edge like it does on the bind off edge. You actually kind of have to pick it out. Some people cut the edge off and pick, but I prefer to just take it out stitch by stitch. I've only had to do it for sleeves fortunately.

If it's stockinette it may unravel from the cast on, but it certainly won't for a mix of purls and knits.
