Hi everyone

I am doing a shawl from the Vogue book Shawls Two. Its the Zigzag lace shawl. I have done the main body of the shawl and I am onto the border, but if I do what I think they are asking me to do, I end up with a lot of stitches, which would give it a ruffle look that is not on the picture. My difficulty is with rnd 1. The shawl is rectangular in shape and on the long sides we are suppose to do twice a :
O-O
which means yo p yo.

My question is, don't I end up with 4 times the number of stitches I started with?

You may have too many stitches on the first row, but check to see if you decrease on the next to create a lacy pattern.

Thanks Ingrid. But no, it doesn't seem like one decreases until the 9th. row and it looks like you add stitches on every odd row. But if I understood the rnd 1, I would understand the rest. The shawl is rectangular. You are suppose to start with one of the short sides and the instructions are:
[*P2, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo; rep from *to two sts before marker, (there is a marker for each corner and this is the end for the first short side), P2, sl marker, work row 3 of chart, sl marker] 4 times.

Row 3 of chart is : yo, P, yo

Would you be doing the yo p yo in just the corners only? The regular lace stitch along the sides, then the double increase at the corners.

Since you are working all the sides at once, you'll need to increase in order to make the corners mitered. I don't think you'll get ruffled edges, they need to get bigger in order to lie flat. Give it a shot.
