what does DDV in a pattern mean?

It should say in the pattern. Are you sure it's not VDD? That would be vertical double decrease, also known as a centered double dec (CDD). It's made by slipping 2 as if to knit together, k2, psso. Annie Modesitt's corset tee and other patterns use VDD.

hehe, it actually did say it in the pattern (I got a little ahead of myself), but you are right, in french its "diminution double verticale"
