I'm taking a look at this scarf pattern (http://www.knitpicks.com/cfpatterns/pattern_display.cfm?ID=50866220&media=RAV&utm_source=media&utm_medium=marketing&utm_campaign=RAV) here that I might attempt at some point in the near future (why? I'm a total newbie and I tend to bite off more than I can chew. Lol) and I have a couple questions.

Rows:
1 and all odd rows: purl all
2: k3 (ssk, k5, yo) k1


I know that "ssk"=slip slip knit, but how exactly do you do that?

Also, I've read what a yarn-over is, but since I've never tried it, I'm not too familiar with how it's done. Is there a video someone can point me to? And does a yarn-over in this case count as a stitch?

The YO counts as a stitch only after you make it, it doesn't use a stitch, it adds one and you just wrap the yarn around the needle like you do for a knit st. The ssk is a dec (which offsets the yo inc). Slip 2 sts knit wise from L to R needle, insert the L needle into the front of them and wrap the yarn around the R needle to knit them together. There's a video on the Decreases page and the YO is on the Increases page. Or you can find them and a lot of other terms with videos on the Glossary page.

SSK is a decrease and YO is an increase. There's a tab for videos at the top of the page. Take a look at those then come back to this thread if you need more help. :teehee:
