It's time for our 5th Annual New Year's Eve Party!
:woohoo: :cheering: :woohoo:

This Saturday evening, December 31st, our online party will last 4 hours (from 11:30 PM to 3:30 AM, Eastern US time).
http://bestsmileys.com/party/1.gif Happy New Year 2012!! http://bestsmileys.com/party/4.gif

The most exciting part of our celebration will be PRIZES (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1337346&postcount=11)!!
:cheering: :woohoo: :cheering:

Since I have been blessed with such an excellent collection of knitting books, I'll be offering some of them as prizes (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1337346&postcount=11). :)

To be eligible for the prizes (http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1337346&postcount=11), just post a reply to this discussion.
Prizes will be given at 12:00 and 12:30 for each time region (Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific). I will be drawing names out of a hat to determine the winners. The prizes will be random, so it's the luck of the draw what you'll get!
Winners do not have to be online at the time of the drawing. I will notify you by private message in the forum if you are a winner.

In addition to our prizes, we will be knitting a 2012 KH Forum memento together. This year, I've designed a small folding pocket, to hold knitting tools. :) (Free Pattern HERE (http://shandehknitting.blogspot.com/2011/12/2012-new-years-eve-kal-knitting-help.html).)

If you want to join us in knitting the pocket, just bring some size 7 or 8 knitting needles, and worsted weight yarn in 4 contrasting colors. (The original project is being made with KH Logo colors: Purple, Red, Yellow, and White.) Gauge is not important for our project.

Last year, we had a wonderful time during our party, talking, knitting together, and sharing stories about our New Year celebrations all over the world.

I can't wait to see you all again this year!

I will probably be present, being the wild party animal that I am. LOL

Please enter me in the drawing. I used the last book I won during a previous year's celebration.

Thanks for hosting again, Sandy!

I actually have those colors in worsted in the stash -- I don't know if that should make me happy or worried ;)

Maybe this is the perfect motivation to finish a little experiment I have on my size 8 needles which has been sitting at 3/4 done for weeks now. Well it will be the perfect motivation once I hide my size 7s from myself for a week or so.

Oooooh, terrific! I think I have a variegated/ombre yarn with red/orange yellow. I know I have purple and white yarns. That's definite.

Books. "While you're wishing, you may as well wish big." I heard that a lot when I was a kid, but whether it was my mom quoting her mom, or some other older relative (dad quoting his mom, maybe?), I can't remember ATM.

My "big wish"? Crossed Fingers My name will be drawn and I will win a book with the word "Sheep" in its title! (There are two such books.)

But just knowing that others are doing the same thing at the same time will be lots of fun! I've done Internet quilting parties before, but this is the first year I've known how to knit, so this will be my first Internet knitting party. :woohoo:

Thanks, Shandeh.

It's a little folding pocket, just big enough to hold a few knitting tools. It is about the size of a deck of cards when it's folded, so it should be easy to grab and throw into your knitting bag or purse, as you go out and about.

I think this might be my favorite design, out of all the New Year KAL projects we have made so far. It's simple and fun, as usual.

I am finishing up the pattern now, so I can post it here for you. Stay tuned!

Thank you all for being ready for our party! :muah:

I just got an email from a member, asking if they could still participate in the party, if they don't knit the project.

The answer is: EVERYONE is welcome!
You are NOT required to knit the project.
I just always create a new KH project every year, just for the fun of it.

I can't wait until Saturday night! :woohoo:

Just think....in TWO DAYS, we will have our online New Year's Eve Party!
:happydance: :woot: :happydance:
One thing is for sure, I will be HAPPY to say goodbye to 2011. This has been a wicked year for me. Wicked as in BAD, not in good. But, I'm stoked for 2012. It's bound to be an improvement.

Last night, I bought a few treats at the grocery store, and I still need to buy a bottle of bubbly for my virtual toast with all of you to bring in the new year. I will have to stick with sparkling grape juice, because I have to play organ and piano at church the very next morning. Ha! Need to keep my wits about me.... :teehee:

Right now, I am trying to write up the pattern for our cute little knitting tools pocket. I had it all written up on my Samsung Galaxy Tab, but the file is too sophisticated for my old PC to understand. So, I'm typing it all over again, while occasionally touching the screen on my Tab to keep it awake.

Wish me luck! Crossed Fingers

.....I've done Internet quilting parties before, but this is the first year I've known how to knit, so this will be my first Internet knitting party. :woohoo:
Cool! Welcome to a new experience.

I think I've been at every one of these shindigs!!

I made them with some INCREDIBLY THICK YARN called Red Heart Boutique Doodle (http://www.shopredheart.com/default.aspx?PageID=62&CategoryID=115&ProductID=4463). I had to use size 35 knitting needles, and a size S crochet hook, because the yarn was too thick for anything else. Here's the free pattern: Footississimo Slippers (http://shandehknitting.blogspot.com/2011/12/footississimo-very-very-thick-house.html)

Chilly house? I think I'd have to call my apt. down right cold! I need to get busy knitting slippers. I have some fat polyester rug yarn from a thrift store, really old stuff. Maybe I can use it for those slippers.

Yep, already fixed those links. I'm a speed demon. :teehee:

Rug yarn will not be thick enough for these slippers. The gauge is ridiculous! One stitch of the yarn I used made almost TWO INCHES! It's that incredibly thick Red Heart Boutique Doodle yarn. The yarn is over an inch thick, but also lightweight. It's like the puff ball yarn without any string....just puffs all the way through. Really one of a kind.

Here's a photo of the yarn. The skein is over a foot long. There are only 12 yards of yarn in each skein.

And, taking a look at the "Pick a Stitch" CD via the newly repaired link, I'm adding it to my "If you're going to wish at all, might as well wish big" list...maybe a book with the word "Sheep" on the cover *or* a copy of this wonderful-looking CD!

Thanx for this fantastic site to get help. This is my 1st time . I belong to a knitting club at my local library, and I am getting better at following the written directions of patterns. I was taught many, many years ago by my Mom, who was left- handed. I am right handed. All I knew was knit and purl...now I am making baby booties, hats, neck warmers, and of course scarfs...etc

Please submit my name to win the KnittinHelp App.

The chat feature was disabled some time ago. We used to used it for these yearly shindigs.

Tis true. It wasn't being used anymore. I asked Shandeh last year if she wanted me to bring it back. I guess it's easier for her to manage things when it's confined to a forum thread like this. It's a lot of work tallying up all the people entering to win prizes, so it makes sense to keep it simple.

Happy New Year! :cheering:

Hello everybody! I came on early cuz I'm starting to feel sleepy. Hubby is laying on the floor in front of the fireplace....snoring, lol. So thats helping keep me awake.

I'm still a beginner after 3 years, working on a simple shawl these days with seed stitch for about 5 inches at each end using Cascade Eco wool. Almost done with the first skein :)

Debating on popping open the Korbel but only if hubby wakes up, lol.

Picking up my needles, will check back in soon!

I've barely been knitting lately. I worked on a toddler sweater that I finally finished yesterday or day before. It took me forever because I haven't wanted to knit for some reason.

Tonight DH and I will be home together. I got up before 5 (early for me) and we haven't cared whether we see a new year in or not for some time. But we're having a nice evening. We played some on-line Boggle and then worked a New York Times Monday crossword puzzle together. We're fixing to have some popcorn and watch a movie. :woot:

This is our first year in our new home, new neighborhood. We've been listening to fireworks for the last 30 minutes. Lots of celebrating. I'm here with my husband (who is sleeping) and my two cats (one is sleeping, the other is staring out the window, unsure about all this noise).

I'm knitting a slouchy hat.

Fireworks are going off all over my neighborhood.

I'm in Western NY

Our town fireworks were just before 10pm, but < 1mi from me and beautiful with the low-hanging clouds magnifying the colors.

Happy New Year All!!

And thanks to Shandeh for this great party and puzzle and pocket pattern I finished mine just before midnight (if you don't count weaving in ends). Something strange happened to my gauge halfway through, but I'm happy.

Thank you! We also skipped vacation this year to save. We get a lot of pressure from friends and family to get married and start having kids (we're almost 25 and have been together since we were 18-- and we come from rural VA where most of our friends are on their 2nd or 3rd baby) and we always say that we choose to wait because we want to enjoy our youth and DO things, so now that the "adult stuff" is done this year we are going to DO things, including take our first "just us"vacation since 2009. I am BEYOND excited. I hope you enjoy your house, also.

I just love the way you angled the 20 and the 12.

Thanks

Haha that was a total mistake.

I thought to myself that since I didn't have any of those fancy split stitch markers I could eyeball where to start the stitches.

I was obviously wrong, and when I noticed how crooked it was decided to offset the other half the other way to make up for it.

About the time I saw how much off center I was I saw on the table next to me a safety pin. I wouldn't even have had to stand or lean to grab & use it as a stitch marker.

So the result was due to double laziness, (1st) not extending my arm to grab and use the safety-pin and (2d) not pulling out the stitches to center the thing correctly once I noticed the problem.

But I was in a hurry to "write" 2012 for the first time on something fun and not on a bill or something.

Driving a car can be fun if you follow this (STEAMY) advice:

#1: When approaching (ELVES) on the right, always blow your (HAMMER).

#2: Before making a (FAST) turn, always stick your (PINKY TOE AND BIG TOE) out of the window.

#3: Every 2,000 miles, have your (GOOSE) inspected and your (IOWA) checked.

Well all, I'm going to shut down the laptop, finish the movie I've been watching with my daughter and two of her college friends who are visiting. She leaves later today to visit at one of her friend's houses before heading back to school.

Love ya, Nathalie! cloud9
Talk soon! :waving:
