View Full Version : Artlady needs button help!

I'm doing the finishing work on my Hallett's Ledge cardigan. I've blocked all the pieces, added the ribbed bands, and right now, the ribbed bands are drying (I mist them after attaching) Next, I need to seam the sleeves to the armholes.

Anyway...I'm having a hard time trying to decide on my buttons. I have 4 suitable buttons in my stash,
and I want to use one of them. All of them are metal except the red button.

Would you give me your input?

Here are my four choices:

Button A:

Button B:

Button C:

Button D:

Top to Bottom: A, B, C, D:

And just so you know, here is a view of the total length of the sweater.
The six buttons come down to the bottom of the sweater.

I have two favorites I'm leaning towards, but I'm keeping my opinion to myself.
I'd love your opinion without my 2 cents.

Thanks for participating!

I think I like the simplicity of A because of the sweaters cable design. You don't want the buttons to be the first thing your eye is drawn to.

At first, I was leaning towards D. But then I read Jan's post and took a second look and now I agree with Jan...button A is the way to go.

I thought A for no particular reason except I thought it looked best. I think Jan's reasoning explains it.

I like choice A. Mostly because they match the sweater's color.

I like A, they don't distract you from your beautiful design. If not that one then I would go with D.

I'd go with A or B. Gorgeous sweater!

I like the way A blends in with the sweater, but I also like how D stands out. If I had to choose, I'd probably go with A.

I like how A and B mimic the horizontal lines of the button band, but they tend to draw my eye up and down the band (looking at and for other similarities, I suppose). Option D, however, is my favorite because from a distance, it mimics the cables, and they, not the button band, are the superstars of this sweater.

All the buttons are lovely, though, as is your almost completed sweater!

A seems to be a favorite, I didn't actually count but there did seem to be a lot of A's. I look forward to knowing which ones you were favoring and which ones get the honor of gracing this lovely garment. It's nice to get to be in on your project. Thanks.

The red buttons are a GO. My husband also likes them best...for the size (bigger) and color. He commented that the small antique gold buttons look a little bit like some coins dropped onto the front of my sweater. Too smallish.

The red buttons were an overwhelming FAVORITE of most folks who took time to give their opinion.

So RED it is!

I seamed the sleeve caps to the armholes today, and right now it's laying on the blocking table with wet terry cloths under and on top of the seams. In the morning I'll remove the terry cloths and allow the seams to finish off and air dry. Hopefully by Saturday afternoon I will be able to sew on my buttons...and wear this puppy to church on Sunday!

Thanks for your help!

Enjoy wearing this beautiful sweater! I hope we'll get to see the complete sweater too.

I can't decide between 1 and 4, but I am leaning toward 1. Regardless of the buttons, the sweater will be lovely! I look forward to seeing the finished project!
