The start of something big! (or at least, long! LOL!)

and a close up on the stitch pattern.

This is taken from the Knitted Lace of Estonia (http://www.amazon.com/Knitted-Lace-Estonia-DVD-Techniques/dp/1596683155/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368149499&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=knitting+easonian+lace) book, the Crown Prince shawl, which I have made blanket sized by increasing repeats, using heaver weight yarn (DK weight) and larger needles (size 6).

The pattern is lovely and it is going to be so gorgeous when you finish it.

Will it be an all-over pattern or more of a border?

That is a wonderfully beautiful wedding blanket!

Lovely! That is so beautiful. I like the color.

The bride requested a neutral color so that as her styles and tastes change, it will always "go."

Will it be an all-over pattern or more of a border?

The crown prince shawl has this diamond pattern as its center square. It also has a wide-ish boarder on all sides, and a beautiful lacy trim around the whole outer edge. Depending on how much yarn I wind up using (purchased nearly 3000 yds!) I may go for one or both of the boarders. If I got my gauge correct, I am making a center square of 60"x60". A queen-sized comforter/quilt is 90"x90", so, we'll see how far I get toward that. I'll let you know.

Loverly! Loverly!

I especially appreciate the wonderful symbiosis between the pattern stitch and the yarn! Looking quite beautiful!

Wow! Thank you! That's quite a compliment, coming from the queen of symbiosis herself! :notworthy:

Update on the progress I'm making on the wedding blanket:

Close up on the knot pattern in between each diamond. I switched out the nupp7's, which I find very difficult to execute for a much simpler p1k1p1 (followed by a p3tog on the w side).

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/401904_10151446128865924_458461776_n.jpg

close up of a correction made to my boarder. it was running tight (tighter than the overall body stitches) so I threw in a shortrow correction and it worked out great!

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/954768_10151446128850924_910763314_n.jpg

and here's a shot of the progress, so far. about 1/4 of the way done now.

This has to be somewhat awkward to work with, and that makes it even more impressive. I'm working on a moss stitch/double seed stitch blanket that's much smaller and it's getting difficult already to work with because of the size. You are really doing a fabulous job! You're an inspiration.

oh, you are not kidding! It is very awkward!

Now, I'm going to be really, really honest with all of you here and tell you the real reason why it's gigantic.

I always fall into the trap that more work means more love. I overdo everything as a result. At some point I'm going to have to realize that I can't buy someone's love with my work. They either already love me or they never will, and no amount of effort will change it either way.

You can literally measure the massiveness of my insecurity by the size of this project. The real reason it's so huge because it's going to the son that left my home in a bad way when he was 22yrs old. But the woman he is marrying has done so much to heal our relationship. She is a wonderful good influence on him. I am so grateful to her. He's making efforts to stay communicating and keep our relationship opened up, instead of closing himself off. It's a major improvement. If it wasn't for her, I really feared I would lose him completely. Thus, I am compensating for the level of insecurity I felt about our relationship with the massiveness of the work. It's sick and twisted. Truly.

So, now that that's out in the open, thank you all for the therapy session. I really needed it! :D

It's still a wonderful way to say "I love you no matter what." I'm so glad his fiance is encouraging him to be closer to you. Blessings on you all.

Moni, you have wonderful insight into yourself and your relationships. Your work comes out more as the work of love and gratitude that it is than as an effort to gain love for yourself. Enjoy finishing this blanket and giving it to your son and his fiancee. Many more happy occasions to celebrate for all of you!

Oh darn it. You're not keeping up with your Ravelry project folder! I wanted to peek in to see what cable length you're using, and yarn! And read your notes!

Anyhoo, it's coming along nicely! Good work!

Will do, Dolyce. It's on a 60" addi turbos, size 6, and the yarn is Longmeadow (http://www.yarn.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/categoryID/3DE2C30C-6D95-43DD-8AB5-B8DB265D6674/productID/43B108F7-7006-40C8-8E49-5004F4435543/), one of yarn.com's Valley Yarns. The colorway is linen, because the bride specifically requested a neutral.
