View Full Version : "Knit a Long" for Sock Bootcamp?
01-26-2005, 10:39 AM
If you've read Hilarious Sock Site (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=316) thread, and are thinking of trying this Drill SGT's method of sock knitting, join Jouf, amigarabita, and I for a knit a long.
I took the liberty of creating a blog for it too. I'll invite anyone from knittinghelp.com as a member to the blog so you can post entries, if you want. I think it will be a lot of fun!
Here's the link to the blog: http://knitalongs.blogspot.com which already has a post with the link to the project, supplies needed, and prerequsite stitches.
PM me your e-mail addy's so I can add to you to the blog.

Here are some questions from beldaraan:
Denise said this weekend to start right?
That's the tentative start date!
How does a knit along work?
I'm fairly new at this myself, but basically I would assume with this thread and the blog combined, we'll be able to start the project this weekend (or at least have all supplies ready) and then post progress updates to the thread or blog. We might want to keep the majority to the blog so we don't take up a lot of space here. If you guys have digital cameras or scanners it would be GREAT to see pictures of your progress too. 2 of 3 of the joiners so far are new to socks entirely, so don't worry about your sock-knitting skills.
I know we all knit the same pattern but I mean how often do we post pics or at what part of the project do we post pics?
As often as you would like to! It'd be great to see pictures or content regarding where you are at each stage of the socks.
Do we all pace ourselves to try and finish around the same time or is it just a free-for-all?
Let's make this an organized free-for-all. Of course, everyone has different schedules so we can't say you have to be done by this certain date or else. Once we get an idea of a) what we are doing and b) everyone's skill level, we should have a general idea of how long this project will take us all to complete. In the mean time, if you find yourself behind or ahead, just do your best and have fun! If anyone is ahead some, it would be great to maybe post some pointers on the blog for those of us (I'm sure I'll be one) who may need a little help.
Me too!!! My goal here is to have a great time with some gals that are just as wet-behind-the-ears as I am.
I would also love to see some more experienced knitters join up, so we can have someone to ask questions!
For those of you still signing up, please PM me your e-mail address so I can add you as a member to the blog!
Denise, you're wonderful!! That's so great that you've made a whole blog for the purpose and everything! It's so exciting, that it's giving me ideas....it makes me want to create a knittinghelp blog section, for future projects like this.....something to think about! It's such an exciting idea!!!
You're all welcome to post as many pictures, etc. on the forum threads as you want, as well; I love that kind of activity on the forum!
I'm so excited that you're all doing this knit-along! Wish I had more knitting time right now--I'd join in! ...Maybe next time!

*blush* Aww, thanks Amy! I'm having a blast with this.
We would be honored to have you in on the next knit a long...am already looking at projects, tee hee!
And a blog section on here would be cool too.
Thanks for letting us have the space on the forum, but remember my sweet, you asked for it!
Bring it on!! LOL. :)
There's no such thing as a too-active forum!

I have PM'd back everyone that has PM'd me, but just to make sure everything has went through...
I have made accounts for the following (pay close attention to the IDs here, this is how your account is at blogspot.
Please follow the instructions in your PM/e-mails that I have sent to log-in with your temporary password and then change your password and e-mail address at blogspot.
If anyone is wondering why I created the accounts, it's because blogspot had some trouble today with inviting members. No worries, all should be taken care of!
After you have your info updated, head on over to the blog and reply to some of the posts when ya have a chance.
Amy has graciously given us carte blanche for this thread to also post pictures, progress updates, and other things related to the knit a long. Please take a moment to thank her.
Also...there is no deadline to sign up!!! Jump on in whenever you're ready. We hope to be started by the weekend, but it's not a requirement.
And lastly, just in case I didn't mention it before don't worry about your skill level. I haven't even finished a swatch *yet* so, this should be verrrry interesting!

Ooh, whoops one more thing. If you get an e-mail from email@example.com, it's from me, not Jouf. It's the e-mail address I've been using to set up the accounts. Confused yet? LOL!!!

Bumping this thread to ask how it's all going. How exciting!!! Do I just go over to the blogspot to read updates, or will they be posted here too.
I am wishing you all luck and patience for your weekend of sock knitting! :D

We're all posting at the blogspot Salsa. We 're starting this weekend whenever we want to. I think one person has started the cast on. I will be starting mine tomorrow.
I don't know how to (or if I can) post pics, so if I can't then my finished product will be posted in Amy's thread for it in the patterns section.
I get a big rush everytime I think about doing this knit-a-long. It's great!!
