Are there any good patterns for a first blanket/afghan? I've only ever made scarves before. Could I cast onto a circular needle(about 400 or more sts.) and just keep knitting? ~Brooke

This is a really easy pattern that I'm doing right now and so far so good.
Only problem is the yard isn't cheap....

But here is the link

there's a great baby blanket in this book: Simple Knits for Cherished Babies (http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1855859262/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-9881920-0160108#reader-page) (and a bunch of other cute stuff). Its a 3 foot x 4 foot baby blanket with a garter stitch border and a simple knit stitch the rest of the blanket. and then it has patterns for monograms (a big block letter "K" or "A" or wahtever) that go in the middle of the blanket, done with a purl stitch

I made it with a nice cotton baby yarn.

I really like how it came out
