My latest FO.... gloves to match my lace scarf. They're my first pair of gloves, they look a little wonky in shape (blocking gloves without a shaped blocker thingy isn't easy), but they fit just fine. Woot! :happydance:

*yes, "shaped blocker thingy" is a technical term.

kemp
09-15-2005, 06:28 PM
hmmm...don't seem to wonky to me! You know...since you're in Fla. I'm sure you can find these...there are hand shaped thingies (also technical) that are meant for drying your golf glove that might work well as glove blockers.

As I clicked on this and saw the picture of the gloves, I didn't even need to see who made them. My first thought was 'Silver's done it again!" Beautiful, just beautiful.

I finally finished the thing! I was so bored with it I kept doing other projects, but I finally sat my butt down and finished it!

I used Bernat Disco Yarn with some orange yarn I picked up on sale in July. That stuff is a PAIN to work with, but hey... it's cute and fuzzy. I'm not ecstatic about it, but it's cute.

P.S. You should model that set for us Silver!

My training sock! (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aidanmoon/222268.html)
I'm SOOO excited! I've never done anything like this at all! I just learned to knit not too many weeks ago, and since then I haven't really done anything with it but yesterday I bought some DPN's because I wanted to do hats. But the first thing I did with them was this training sock from knitty! I just...I'm SO EXCITED!! I've been amazed by these people who knit socks all the time and I never thought I'd be able to do it. There's all kinds of mistakes in it, the most obvious one being the row of garter stitch at the back - But I don't care!! I'm so confident in my knitting now that I know the one thing I wanted to do the most is within my grasp!

Ingrid
09-18-2005, 08:39 PM
Good for you! I love that you dismissed the mistakes and can see the possiblities!!

KellyK

(I'm fairly sure Aidan is a chicO.) :shifty:

OOH....I just noticed the last sentence in your post, too, Aidan.....WHAT is the ONE thing in the world you most want to knit? INTRIIIIGUING!

(And, PLEASE dont say something that would make us all cry...like "I want to knit my mommy and daddy back together again"...or "I want to knit myself a real best friend" or "Id like to teach the world to knit in perfect harmony and knit the world a carbonated beverage".....) :(

Edited later....
You may or may not have already seen my post elsewhere about me being SO intrigued with Aidan's comment about the thing he most wants knit that I am now searching through all of his posts....

I know, stalking him like this is a LEEEETLE creepy, but...

OH OH OH! I think I may have found it!
It's either THIS (http://www.yarnfwd.com/bomber.html) OR THESE (http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer04/PATTlolita.html).

Am I getting CLOSE, Aidan? You REALLY need to start a blog here, sir!

Kome! I'm loving that scarf with your army green "search and destroy" tshirt. :roflhard:

I look, go do a chore (should be some stitches) and then keep coming back to look again. It reminded me of the painting of Kramer on Seinfeld. Where the old guy said "--Yet I can't look away." And for those of you that would go and look up the whole exchange I give you "The Kramer".

Woman:"I sense great vulnerability."
Man: "I see a parasite, a sexually depraved miscreant."
Woman: "His struggle is man's struggle."
Man: "He is a loathsome, offensive brute
--yet I can't look away."
Woman: "He transcends time and space."
Man: "He sickens me."
Woman: "I love it!"
Man: "I love it, too!

"Yet I cant look away! I love it!" Candace, or it could just be your modeling. :) Love that too!

Actually, what I've wanted to make more than anything is socks... :rofling: I like that they're so useable...not to mention terribly impressive when you KIP! :XX: I can crochet socks too, but I can't use WW yan with that because they come out too thick and baby yarn is outrageous around here.

I actually tried to make a sock out of cotton today, but when I turned my heel I messed up so that my purl side was to the outside and my knit side was to the inside. I do like cotton though, I think I may go on a spree and buy some sugar 'n' cream and similar things.

yup i wanted to set him up with my friend chris after just two blog posts...lol. i nearly even IMed him to tell him to go read the blog cuz they sound identical!...yeesh

Koolbreeze, I think the summer swing top took me about 2 1/2 weeks to make. It is REALLY simple. Those eyelets may look difficult, but they're really fun. I'd like to incorporate them into other patterns.

:( Not real happy with how the top of the hat turned out. I'm not digging the way they decrease. I like the subtle spiral of the watchcap pattern, I'm used to. In any case, here is the completed set.

http://intheclique.com/dadhat2.jpg
http://intheclique.com/woolease.jpg

They look like two different colors in the pic but they aren't. The dye lots were perfect. It's just my camera.

Ingrid

That was fast! They look great. The spiral of the other cap was unusual. This looks like most of the hats I've knit. He'll love them!

Thanks guys!!

mintdee~ I used the toddler inst. under getting started to make the poncho but I CO 36 instead of 32 and I made it a little longer than 16 inches cause it wouldn't go over her head LOL just once I'd like to make something right the first time and not have to re-work it.. It was very simple to do and didn't take anytime at all.. I also did the 3 first/last rows Garter St in between is St. St although the first 3 sts and last 3 sts are garter... Not sure the edging is crocheted on right figured that out as I went LOL but it was realllllyyyy easy to do :D

Brendajosos he was sooo excited this morning when he came down and saw his hat was off the needles!! ohh I'm gonna go take a picture of his yarn for his sweater LOL its  bright!!

Edited~ posted picture under whatcha knittin' but the colors don't really show how bright they are...

Iamar, WOW, what beautiful colors & style of shrug; looks great on you, too bad you must give it away ;)
Dusti, everything looks toooo cute and don't u have a happy camper in the picture

Ennomir, I decided to switch to Cont. knitting after knitting for around a year for preparation for fair isle knitting so that I will be able to carry yarn in each hand. I certainly did NOT like it for quite a while, the last 4 projects that I did took FOREVER because I was realllly slow and would switch back and forth between throwing & cont., but I've gotten it down with practice and have finally come to enjoy it and I suppose I have picked up a bit of speed to have knit around 50" on my scarf in a few days considering the cabling and seed st. All that said to say, watch Amy's video's and practice and it really does become as 2nd nature as throwing, just requires practice ;) . If I can do it, anyone can do it :D

Yes ... I, too, am "addicted to the knit" ...

Here are three of my recent projects: a ruffled scarf, a collar/shawl & a baby blanket I crocheted in Broomstick Lace. I used a size #50 knitting needle as the 'broomstick', so does that count as knitting???

I've also got an eyeglass case, a Magknit necklace & a pillow finished and ready to be sewn together, as well as a tank top and another pillow half done. Hmmm - ADD anyone??? I started all of these a little over 2 months ago.

I FINALLY have a finished project!!! It's been so long. I've been working on an afghan, understandably a long-term project, and also Marnie's Pismo Hat (http://marniemaclean.com/patterns/Pismo/index.html), which I thought would be easy but is taking me forever.

I needed a project I could finish quick, so I made Cameron's Cap (http://sarahpeasley.com/freepatterns/cameronscap.pdf) for my son and I LOVE it!!! I made it in red, with one narrow and one wide white stripe in the 'body' of the hat. It has an i-cord knot at the top and is SO utterly cute I can't wait to try it on in the morning.

I wish I had a pic, but I have to wait for dh to bring the camera home. I would recommend this project to anyone - it is quick and easy and oh so cute. It has sizing for newborn, baby, toddler, child & adult!

femi-I love your kitty bed!! Poor kitty, but very cat-like...lol, they always must 1st 'act' like they don't like what you want them to like ;)
KQ..WTG! I know what you mean, afghans can take forever! I do the same thing, do something quick and fun while knitting an afghan so the afghan doesn't become boring! Jobs well done...can't wait to see the pics!!

awwwww, thanks guys.
I wonder when that happens?? Prolly longer than 3mos I've been knitting forever, and I still can't do it!That's true, the first slipper pattern I made (which was actually the first thing I made) was improvised completely, right after I learned to knit...you just have to be very willing to make mistakes... a LOT of mistakes :roflhard: ... (the dress was supposed to be a top for my 6yo neice - got about four rows done and realized I should have co about twice the stitches  but I knew that I needed a shower gift, too, so I kept on with it, anyway.)

Thanks for all the kudos, guys... when I tweak the top a bit, I'll make sure I post the finished pattern for y'all.

I also finished this scarf (http://www.loop-d-loop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LOS&Product_Code=LL-BLS&Category_Code=) on Saturday...a Christmas gift for a friend. If you need a chuckle, take a look at the gallery on that site...the models look so...so...well, I don't know quite how to describe them. :roflhard:

Anyway, it was a fun little project. I used Knitpicks Decadence. I wasn't sure if I had enough to double it like the pattern calls for, but even though it's a bulky yarn, it didn't feel bulky enough knitting with a single strand. So I did some weighing and praying, and actually had about three feet of yarn left over. Now *that* is cutting it close!

But look at it now!!!
:frog: :frog: :frog:
I almost didn't, but the more I looked at it the more I would have felt bad giving it to her like that... It looked ok on the front, but the back had a bad join where I had to start knitting back and forth on the circs, and I wasn't crazy about the sleeves (they were just armholes with a little cap on them  )... Once I tweak the top design, I'll try to write up the pattern and post it.

Julie your baby bonnet and your scarf are beautiful. I love the littel scarves that you slip through a loop, they look so neat on and dont end up on the floor when taking your coat off. Very nice, the icord is a nice idea, the ribbon would have ended up wrinkled all the time.

I just kept reminding myself what I was told as a kid... If you're not sure if you did it good enough, you didn't. Go do it right. :roflhard: Of course, my mom was referencing cleaning the bathroom, but still... It's a gift, I had to.
Usually, if I can, I just crochet over my mistakes (I was going to add a ruffle to the little arm caps to make them a bit more substantial) but that join couldn't be fixed except by redoing it. :verysad:

But... we can rebuild it... we have the technology... we can make it better, tighter knit, more defined...

The one we both like is in one of the books, in the back, it is shown with ivory and chocolate yarn, it has a diamond pattern. It is just a bit beyond my comfort level at this time. I will get there, I know it, but I can't have it done in time for Christmas. There is one in the other book near the back called Mocha something that we both love. She is going to look through again to see if she can choose one. We have the same taste....the same ones you marked I liked, and Brandy liked many of them!!!!

I am doing Marnie's Pismo hats for Stephen and Doug, one will get black and other will get brown, both will have sand as an accent color. My boys are boring, no crazy colors for them.....I ordered the stork that Marnie used.

This kind of felting is done by washing wool in hot water with lots of agitation. It causes the wool to shrink and tighten up.

Ingrid

Adding leather soles is an option. Somebody was trying to find them, but I'm not sure they did. The ones at the Fiber Trends site were pretty expensive, if I recall.

I plan on using puff paint on the sole for traction.

Don't most leather purses have a rougher texture on the inside? Couldn't you just cut up an icky one from a Goodwill and use that?

The felting was super-easy. I just put the clogs in a zippered mesh bag, put them in the washing machine with a couple pair of jeans and a little bit of detergent. It took about 20-25 minutes. I took them out after 10 minutes, stretched them out lengthwise, and then put them back in. Then I checked every 5 minutes until they were the size I wanted. Ta Da!!!

I am going to try puffy paint for traction on these ones, but I am looking for soles to try on another pair. My next ones will be size 13's- GULP- for my brother-in-law..................

Beutiful clogs! I don't know how to felt... Do you know a good book with very detailed instructions? My husband is goig to travel to Miami soon, so Im preparing a list of books and Im lost in felting.

I like Knit One Felt Too (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1580174973/qid=1128048047/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-9948978-7574314?v=glance&n=507846) and Felted Knits (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1931499330/qid=1128048107/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-9948978-7574314?v=glance&s=books). both have excellent instructions.

How does it happen that I keep getting knocked off the "watch this topic" list for this topic??? grrrr

I just read through many, many pages of posts, and I can't even remember what I looked at. All I remember is that the work I saw was very well done!!

Some day, I, too, will have another FO to post. :help: I need to stop starting multiple largish projects at the same time.

Here's my first ever finished pair of socks. I like them, but the yarn pills a bit. Guess that's why it was cheaper

Your bag is cute!

I just learned how to post pics in the past month or so, (so I'm certainly no expert) but there must be a place where you have your pictures stored to downsize them. On my Kodak program it gives you an option in the saving area of a range from 100 percent to Best for Web. Or you can right click on the picture and check for properties. That may give you a place to down size them.

brendajos
10-04-2005, 10:55 AM
that bag is adorable! i store mine on photobucket.com. it is great because i can link them to just about any site and it doesn't take any space up on here. there is a tool on there that will edit the pic down for you too if it looks too big for posting. i haven't had to do that with too many of mine though since storing them on there!

Here is my first finished knitting project. I went to an open house
for knitters on Saturday and they showed me how to cast on and how to knit a little then set me up to make a hat.
I posted in the super newbie help section as I goofed up and they helped a lot.
I finished it today at the class.

Hi Kemp,

I've been looking for a pattern for high socks like yours!

Is it a free pattern, and what yarn did you use? My teenage nieces would go NUTS over those socks! :happydance:

Thanks,

Mary

kemp
10-04-2005, 05:25 PM
Thanks Mary...I made it up! I did take notes this time though...I plan on writing it up in the next couple of days and it will be in the "free patterns" section on my blog. I used Opal Petticoat (http://www.fncyarn.com/opal_petticoat.html). The finished sock weighs 42 grams and the yarn comes in 100g skeins so it should take just one skien for a pair.
