Did you find them yet? They're not all Locked up!! Don't get so frustrated that you get all Hurley!! It's not like I tossed them down a secret hole and then put an impenetrable HATCH over them or anything!

They're not LOST!

:roflhard: Hildie's "not" cake.... :roflhard:

Thanks for posting those, Jul... everyone should know that I was CRACKING UP in that "after" pic because it was taken "after" Hildie tried to feel me up! I dont know WHAT I was doing with my hands, though.... :?? Der de DERRRRRRR! :? You'd swear I was "knitting from both ends of the skein".... :rofling:

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! That was a SECRET!!!!!!!!!!!! :fingerwag:

I want to personally thank everyone for making it such a fabulous birthday party FOR ME! It was like I was a celebrity... and I *did* show up fashionably (an hour) late :-) Leslie, my kitties ESPECIALLY enjoyed the balloons :-) And, now that I think about it, the kitties enjoyed ALL the leftover food, because I stupidly left the cake and the shortbread-caramel-chocolate things (from andrea and julie) on the dining room table when I got home... we had a bon fire that night, and we were outside for several hours, and came back in to discover they had confiscated our treats!!!!

I feel guilty because I did almost all the talking and Mary and Leslie couldn't get a word in edgewise! Next time, I won't talk at all, I promise.

And did we NOT mention what KK made for my birthday???? They are, mysteriously JUST the right size... DH thinks they are *fabulous* :eyebrow:

Just to make Kelly happy ...

First of all, let me apologize, but I'm about to hijack this thread. :D

You see there are certain people around here who are giving me a hard time because I haven't had a chance to post pictures of the IL gathering yesterday. So, I decided I would hide them. :figureditout: This seemed like the most logical place.

I was going to sign in under an assumed name, but I thought that would just be too mean.

Thanks, Femi, for letting me borrow your space. For what it's worth: I *love* Lost, but I've only watched the 1st season on DVD. I'm waiting for them to start the re-runs of the 2nd season so I can watch it from the beginning.

And here are the pics, which were posted in a different thread, but since everyone was ... ahem ... picking on me, I moved 'em (bwah ha ha ha):

OK, I finally got a minute to post a few pics.

First ... Hide's surprise ... Where Hilde receives a hand-made birthday gift from Kelly:

I really wanted to make a slideshow of these, but I don't have time to futz around with it. So just scroll through these really fast to get the same effect.

OMGOSH ... no one's posted here for a WEEK!

I just put a note in Kelly's blog about a potential gathering on Saturday. Look here. (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?p=179561#179561)

Kim ... :verysad:

Holly ... Why don't you join us? It's out here near St. Charles -- not far from you!!

Vick ... I told Susan that I was sure we wouldn't be there before 11 am. I'm sure she would be fairly flexible as long as their pregnant mama isn't in labor or anything. She's due any day.

KellyK
06-01-2006, 08:29 AM
I hope I can get Al to go... we have to take the pooches to the vet at 1, so it would have to be in the later afternoon...

Jul, you are SO great for arranging this!!

Sigh... I'll be en route to Alabama...

Illinois people, I just got a note from The Gifted Purl (http://www.giftedpurl.com/site/) in Dundee advertising 25% off everything on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (2, 3, 4 June) - they didn't have a huge selection when I was there a few months ago, and I assume this is to clear out stuff before they get new stock, but I thought you all might like to know.

VickiIL
06-01-2006, 09:50 AM
Can my dh and kiddies come? We will already all be in Naperville until noon. And my dh has been kinda interested in Alpaca farming in general (he is a farm boy who would love to find a way to get me on a farm. I think he thinks Alpaca is the only way that might happen. )

Holly
06-01-2006, 10:32 AM
:( Alas, instead of having a fun yarn get-together, I will be doing an overnight campout with the cub scouts -- that starts at 1 P.M. and goes ALL NIGHT  As I am still in a cast for my broken foot, I'm having nightmares about crutching to a pit toilet in the dark (that's if I can actually get up off the tent floor)!!

On the plus side, since I can't do much, I'm bringing my knitting bag :XX:

Have fun guys, and I hope to get-together with all of you again soon :D

Andrea
06-01-2006, 11:03 AM
I got the same postcard, Karen. Are you going? I'm not too impressed with their selection, so I don't think I'll go.

Kirochka
06-01-2006, 11:13 AM
No, Andrea, I'm on a yarn fast until I get some more things started and finished!!!

DotMom61
06-01-2006, 01:25 PM
Well, as I mentioned in Kelly's blog, it looks like we should probably pick a different weekend to do this because too many of you are unable to come.

But, if there's still someone who would *really* like to come and meet DD and I there (Vicki?) ... we could still do it!!

Let me know!

KellyK
06-01-2006, 06:49 PM
I already posted this in my blog, but...

Jul...my SIL would LOVE to "lend" Ella to me for an alpaca farm trip on Saturday! :cheering: I dont think I could be at your house any earlier than 3:30..... Vet at 1, pick up Ella at 2:30...then out to you. Would that work??

VickiIL
06-02-2006, 12:18 AM
We would love to meet you and dd. As I said my dh and my kidlets will be with me. We probably won't be there until 1ish. We are done at church around noon and then a quick bite to eat at subway. (would you mind PMing me with directions from Naperville.)
Let me know if this would work for you.

(I know KK was talking about coming later so if you wanted us to stall, I am sure we can find something to do.)

DotMom61
06-02-2006, 07:46 AM
Vick --

I think Kelly & Ella are going to be arriving around 3:30 or 4. Would it work w/ your schedule to do the same? Then we can all go over together -- the farm is only about 5 mins from here.

I'll PM you directions in a few! :cheering:

OH, Leslie, did you see the "Growing Up..." about the giraffes this week? I've never seen a giraffe born before. It looks rather dangerous!

And like I told Karen: I'm *sure* we'll be able to get over there again. They seem really open to having visitors!!!

KellyK
06-04-2006, 12:33 AM
I DEFINITELY think they would be open to having visitors again!! What SWEET people....SO willing to share what they do. Had SUCH a great day today.... its always good to see Vicki and Julie, and their FANTASTIC kids! Was also nice to meet Mr. Vicki!

My favorite part, I think, was getting to share this with my niece, Ella. She's just a wonderful little girl.... so, that's why my pics are a bit Ella-centered....

Kelly --

Thank you for posting those fantastic pictures!! We really did have a great time, and the kids were fascinated by the alpacas .... until they discovered the hammock. :roflhard:

All of the Waldrons animals -- all the alpacas plus Coco, Leena, and Charlie (kitty, kitty, doggie) -- were so friendly and gentle. I can't wait to go back and visit again!! They're just so NICE!!!

And, Andrea, Susan is working on putting together a "fiber seminar," and she hopes to be ready to present it to us in about a month. I hope  I hope  I hope

The area back by the waterfall will be a *perfect* spot for us to sit, knit, and learn about fibers. :cheering:

DotMom61
06-11-2006, 10:42 AM
It's a Wed., and yes, I believe it's during Swedish Days. I guess that could be an advantage or a disadvantage, huh? :?? I wonder if W&C is having a sale that week?!

Vicki: If you need to bring your kids along, please do!! I'm just glad I won't have to manage *mine*. ;-)

Off to see what sales might be going on ...

DotMom61

Karen -- :( It's *not* fair. I wish you could come, too.

Andrea -- So, do you think you'll be able to come?

Who else? Vicki? Julie? Hilde? I would imagine KK will also be working. :(

Let's see ... since I started rattling off Illinoisians, I have to name EVERYONE now, or I will be chastised ... Leslie, MaryB, Kimmie, Holly, Lana .... uh ... uh ... I know I'm forgetting someone, and I know it's probably obvious, but .... uh ... I CAN'T THINK!!! :wall:

I will have to leave by 2 pm to go pick up the kids in Lombard, but I'll try and be there right @ 11 am. I don't imagine it will be too difficult to find something to eat for lunch given the street fair that will be going on. I'm all for just plunking on the courtyard lawn -- knitting and picknicking. Oh yeah ... and Wool & Co. is just across the street & down the block. So, if we run low on supplies, we're all set. ;-)

Kimmie -- I'm so sorry you can't join us. One of these days ... ONE of these days ... we're going to schedule an outing sometime when you are actually NOT doing something!!!! I PROMISE!

And, Andrea, do you just want to meet there on the Courthouse Lawn? Being a cop and all, you just be able to find it by smell, right? :roflhard: (And I'll buy you a cup of coffee so you're not so shleepy.)

DotMom61
06-16-2006, 10:41 AM
Yeah, Karen ... Tell Jerry that you're not feeling well and the only thing that will make you feel BETTER is sitting in the warm sun in "the south." :D

Andrea: I like your method much better than my "jumping up and down" method. But, then again, it wouldn't be NEARLY as exciting.

BTW ... I was in W&C yesterday & talked to the owner. He said that last year was the first year they had the Knit Out, and they had about 100 people!! Wow! So, this year, they're expecting more ... perhaps 200!! He also mentioned there are going to be some really great prizes & that their vendors have been very generous. Woo Hoo!

Julie & Vicki ... will you be there???

(And I had a reallllllly hard time avoiding some beautiful mmmmmmMalabrigo yesterday ... agh!!!! How many skeins does it take to make a Lucy, and where can I get that pattern? I forgot to ask them yesterday if they had it.)

Kirochka
06-16-2006, 10:56 AM

Hey, friends.... my mom just started her "good" project for her knitting classes (did I tell you I got her classes for her birthday in April? She started on May 31st & they go for 6 weeks.) . Now she wants us to have a knit-together so she can meet all of you (and show off a little).

Is anyone up for July? Maybe the 1st or the 15th? I was thinking about Mosaic Yarn Studio in DesPlaines... that's where her classes are & we've never been there. She may be able to talk the owner into a nice discount for us!

Andrea
06-16-2006, 11:10 AM
15th I think I'd be off!! :cheering:
The 1st would be bad for me! (and it is all about me!)

Julie, I keep saying the Lucy bag took one skein of MMM, but I think it was two...

Well, even w/ 2, that's not too bad, really. You'd pay lots more than that for a hand-made bag @ a boutique or something.

I just bought 5 hanks of Cascade 220 yesterday for my next Oregon Tote -- Terracotta (http://www.kyarns.com/dynamic/c220-2431.jpg) & Walnut Heather (http://www.kyarns.com/dynamic/c220-8013.jpg). We had a blast winding them into balls.

And if Bailey was anywhere near you as you were using your ball winder, I'm sure it was a blast!!! (How long before she stopped and said "I'm hungry"?? :rofling: )

Fortunately, they were BOTH already well fed. Brian is the one who wanted to become the expert on it. He insisted that we not touch the yarn while he was positioning it on the swift, and then he insisted that he show Bailey how to wind the yarn through the yarn holder & then he insisted that he coach her through the whole thing.

We finally insisted that he stop insisting and give us all a turn.

And this should be the last one as a gift -- unless another one of the nurses gets pregnant!

I'm going to use similar colors to eventually make my Constant Companion. Oooo ... can't wait!! :cheering:

I am SOOOOOO sad!! :verysad:

I had quietly been getting my ducks in a row to go to the knit-out...especially after Neil at Wool & Co was raving on Saturday about how awesome the giveaway prizes are....then yesterday my bf asked if I could possibly watch her DD on Wednesday.

Without even thinking I said yes -- she has a funeral and she watches my kids constantly, so my first instinct is always to say yes to her. Then about 30minutes later it hit me. The knit-out. Wednesday.

Lana

I've been planning on being in Geneva for the knit-out, hoping nothing derails my plans.
There's an art fair happening that day also, something for DH and I to do after I get a knit tog fix.
I even started a project last week so I'd have something on needles to bring.
I'm not lovin' it, but it's going along rather fast.
I'll wear a bright colored cap, so someone can wave at me franticly, so I can find you all.

I just got back from BIG LOTS with a lime green folding chair that matches my cap.
Ya think ya'll be able to see me coming?

P.S. It was a banner shopping excursion for me. Jo Ann's had the size and brand crochet hook I've needed for more than a year (YIPPEE), to replace the one that went down the heat vent, and that duck work is in the (YUCKY) crawl space.

Well I don't think I am going to make it. Yesterday was aweful! A routine trip to Trader Joe's ended up in the emergency room. Nathan decided that he was too tired to walk and thought he would hitch a ride on the side of the cart. This tipped over the full cart of groceries. Nathan was pinned underneath the cart and Carson who had been riding in the child's seat went down with it. The cart was too close to the freezer and he hit his head on the freezer wall on the way down. Poor baby has a goose egg on the side of his head where it hit. Nathan's legs were all cut up and swelling. The EMT's couldn't get him to bear any weight on them. So we were it to the ER for x-rays and to get Carson checked out. Despite the pain, Nathan thought the Ambulance trip was the "coolest." The baby however did not share this. Both boys were strapped down to a board to immobilize them and Carson was terrified. He screamed for me the whole way. As it turned out Nathan's legs were intact suffering only a number of bruises and cuts and he was walking by the end of the day. Carson is also ok, although is determined never to sit in a grocery cart again. Poor thing.

Trader Joe's was awesome (of course they are probably worried they will be getting a call from my lawyer...but that just isn't me.) They even offered to deliver my groceries. (I live 45 minutes away!)

So anyways our week is now all changed around because we lost a day. The kids speech and ot therapy appointments that were suppose to be done early this week will need to stay on Wednesday as normal. The boys also have a follow up appointment with our chiropractor...and we are suppose to be having a garage sale this weekend so I will have to get ready for that at some point.

So there it is. My long explanation on why I won't be able to make it Wednesday. Have a great time without me. Take pictures for me!

He has no choice but to get over it...with three kids he will be sitting in that cart until he's too big for me to physically get him in!

Normally I am pretty cool in a crisis but I have to say thinking was very difficult. My 7 yo ended up giving the EMT's everyone's birthdates. I just couldn't remember them!

I just spoke with Julie & Andrea on the phone... Julie has qualified for the FINALS in the "fastest knitter" contest!!!

I told her that we expect her to split her prizes with us!

She thinks that, in that case, we'll all get 1 yard of yarn.

Julie

Andrea
06-21-2006, 05:49 PM
Julie got 3rd place and got some hand painted Schaefer (sp?) sock yarn with a sock pattern (called "Miss Priss")

We each got to pick a hank of Cascade 220 on the way out...

And for our most embarassing moment...the woman announced "The first 2 people who can come up here with a stitch marker and a tape measure..."

She didn't have to finish her sentence, me and Julie jumped up and RAN to the lady...Julie was knitting socks with a marker on the needles, so she dragged her whole ball of yarn behind her and I threw my tape measure at the lady... not our classiest moment!!

But we each got a prize--Julie got 2 balls of Cascade Fixation and a sock pattern, I got 1 ball of it with a hat pattern...

All in all, pretty good day! :cheering:

But we lost the 2 Headed Knitter contest (got beat by teenage whippersnappers  )...each person held one straight needle and together you had to knit a row (one hand each)

Wow!! Thanks, Julie, for posting those!!! We're on the BLOG!! Wee hoo!

We really did have a lot of fun, and we're really lucky that we didn't hurt anyone on our mad dash to the Cascade Rep., We were pretty embarrassed afterwards. Yarn greed is a scary thing.

I'm trying to decide if that handpainted wool is enough to make a Lucy Bag. I think I'd like it better as that than as socks. But I can't wait to try the Fixation yarn!!

We really need to get a larger contingency for this event next year. PLUS, we need to practice our Two-Headed and speed knitting!!! There's FREE YARN at stake!!!

And, Andrea, did you see me running back down the street to get my chair after we left? I got almost all the way to the car before I remembered. I still managed to get over there & pick up the kids on time, though. Whew. And what else did you buy before you left, my dear?!!1

Andrea
06-22-2006, 12:20 PM
No I didn't see you! :roflhard:

I didn't buy anything at Wool and Co ( ), but I stopped at Village Yarn and bought 3 hanks of tan Cascade 220 for Chris' sweater  (I didn't really like it in there though!)

Oh, and I wish I had 2 balls of Fixation so I could make socks... :verysad: I can't believe you just didn't give me yours!! Just like that greedy lady on the other side of me!!! HA!!

Hey, I don't know if I am supposed to post this here since they took it---but I really like this picture! :D

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, been contimplating this for a while.

Hildie probably lives closest to where I live, but Sycamore is a pleasant drive in the country, also close to interstates for those who are willing to drive on them.

Jim agreed he could spend time in the garage for a house full of knitters.
We have lots of individual chairs and central air for summer comfort.

Any interest in a BYOL knit together? I'm hospitable to a point. There's always coffee (I prefer the fancy stuff, but there's a can of Columbian in the frig, too), herb tea and bottled water.
Alternative to bringing your lunch: there's an excellant Mexican restraunt in town and the fantastic Ollie's Frozen Custard stand in De Kalb.
Our house and yard is a no smoking zone, if there's anyone that matters to.

Most of you get together frequently, so talk among yourselves. Not much on our calendar, so if there's any interest and a date that works for many, it probably will fit on my calendar.
Just a thought.

We have such happy news at our house    our daughter Kate became engaged last week-end. We love Andy and look forward to having him as part of our family. Andy's parents have invited us to their home next Saturday to begin planning the October "07 wedding. Maybe we can push the time late enough in the day so that my husband get get his golf game in and I can spend an hour or two at Mosaic. I guess I would have to consider the in-law invite as a priority------but really, we are talking about knitting here!!

Hope to see you for at least part of the day at Mosaic! :XX:

Hmmm.... Mosaic is listed as a seller of Jordana Paige bags, I've noticed... this way, if they have any, I can look at them and decide if I should go ahead and tell DH about them for my birthday... ... I can't really decide if I would really use one or not...

Andrea, I'm planning on the train that gets to Pingree Rd at 10:03 and Cary at 10:08 (and Des Plaines at 10:44)! I just love the idea that DH can have the car and I don't have to drive! :happydance:

What time does this start? Is it at 11? I'm trying to decide if I should drive out that morning or Friday night - if it is early I think Friday night would be best because if there is traffic on Saturday morning I might not make it.

I'm seriously considering coming now - like 99% sure I am going to come!! I woke up this morning with ZERO pain in my shoulder!! :cheering: So, after 5 adjustments this next coming week I should be pretty darn close to being all better!

Sara that is GREAT news!!!!!!!

Mary, that is great news TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! But you're right, it *is* knitting.... the wedding is a year and 3 months away... that's PLENTY of time to plan :-) Seriously, we know that's important, but if you can come for 2 or 3 hours that will be fabulous!!!

Andrea

Hmmm, sounds good!

I just realized today that I work Friday night, so I'm going to be tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired at the knit together on ZERO hours of sleep :( :( :( Then we're going out to dinner that night with friends so I'll probably be up for more than 24 hours straight

Wow ... so much news here!!

Congrats on the engagement, Mary!!! That's really exciting. Have you met the future in-laws yet?

Sara .... YAY!!! :cheering: ... I'd invite you to stay here on Friday -- especially since we're on the closer side of IL for you -- but I think we're having dinner guests that night. :( (Not that it's a big deal, but I think my in-laws are staying over, too, and we only have one guest room.) If plans change, though, I'll let you know!!

Andrea -- you can't catch even a widdle nap?? You poor thing -- you can curl up on a couch there, and we'll wake you up when something exciting is about to happen.  Can I bring you some coffee ... or donuts? :D

Kirochka
07-09-2006, 09:49 AM
Sara, you could stay with us too - I'd thought you were staying with Hildie, but if you do need a place, we have two guestrooms. (Hope you don't mind a slightly, er, messy house...) We're in Algonquin (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=&city=algonquin&state=il&zipcode=).

ETA: Andrea, poor sweetie! You'll be so tired! Definitely curl up on the couch if you need to!

Hilde graciously has offered to let me stay with her  so I took her up on the offer! I will be coming in Friday night and probably leaving Satruday after the get together (I'll need some quality time with DH on Sunday! ).

Thanks Karen & Julie for the other offers!

During my first IL get-together in January, not only was I new to the group, I wasn't even a knitter yet (I had started teaching myself over a year before, but my thumb started killing me and I had stopped and forgotten everything... which was a good thing, because I was doing something terribly wrong... it was before I found KH)! I brought needles and yarn but I couldn't even remember how to do a knit stitch! They're very welcoming...! ;)

KellyK
07-10-2006, 02:30 PM
KAREN! Whaddaya mean "they" are welcoming?!?! YOU are a part of our WE!

As are you, SJ! You arent CRASHING anything!! :cheering:  :cheering:

I asked my mom (her name is Gloria, btw) to recommend a place for lunch.... she said Cheeseburger in Paradise is right around the corner, walkable, and has outside seating for if its nice outside! How does that sound?

And, werent we all just talking about CBIP somewhere in the blogs?

Kirochka
07-10-2006, 03:46 PM
I meant "they" then, Kelly! Now I definitely feel part of the "we"!

Kelly, my mother's name is also Gloria! And so is my best-friend(-except-for-Jerry) Lynne's mother's name!

Cheeseburger in Paradise sounds fine to me, since I know I can get a veggie burger there!

If that's true, it sounds great. I love a good veggie burger!

I can't wait...I really need some "girl time/knitting time" Actually just any time that isn't "Mommy Time" would fit the bill!

It'l be fun to have Sara Jayne and Kelly's Mom join the group! I never even thought of inviting my mom...(Although she's a crocheter...) She is coming with me to Stitches.

On the other hand, the biggest thing happening in my life this week is:

Well, that's probably about 5+ miles south of here. When was that taken ... today? Yesterday? I don't remember hearing any thunderstorms rolling through here today @ all. Now early, early this morning (about 2 am) this gigantuous thunder clap scared the pee waddins out of me. I just about sat bolt upright in bed. That's all we heard, and then it was basically done.

That is a really skeery picture, though, Hild. :help: I'm kind of a baby when it comes to thunderstorms.
