Looking for a pattern for a hat like the one pictured below (it's from an ebay auction I was watching, then thought---hey, i could make that!). I want to make it out of cotton, and I'm not particular about the pattern, colors, etc, just as long as the pattern is free or in a book that has other cool stuff in it :-)

geeeeeee, thaaaaaaaaanks KK. you are SO HELPFUL. :P

I actually HAVE a bacon and eggs hat already. ;-) And I do like the watermelon hat. AND i like the squiggle hat too! Unfortunayly I think most of them are felted and I I don't think thatwill keep me cool... or work with cotton ;-) SO the search continues! I kept coming up with CROCHET patterns when i searched... i guess i need to learn to do that correctly, then.

Hilde, did you start that hat yet? I have a friend who is definitely a "hat" person and I would love to make a bucket hat for her. Is the chemo cap one still the winner?

Yep, that's the one I'm going to do, but I haven't started yet! KK told me I had to finish something that's not a bag before I started anything new. I do have lots of finished bags.... When do you think you're going to start? Are n't you doing the clogs too?

oh yes...I am quite the non-monogamous knitter!

I ususally have at least 3 projects going at once, if not more. I think its fun to be able to change it up a bit so I don't get bored doing one project for too long.

So KK is the boss of you now, huh? :D

Hildegard_von_Knittin

yes. KK is very sneaky. She will lure you in with her niceness and sweetness and then all of a sudden you become her minion, and not only does she demand sycophantish praise CONSTANTLY, she also tries to run your life AND your knitting.

Oh boy, now you've really done it! You're going to have her stomping in here any minute.

Run, Hilde, Run! Save yourself...there's still time!

Well.. I thought..nahhhhhhhh I don't like it BUT today I joined the Knitting Guild Of Am. and one of the gals had a purse that she had made and felted..
Ohhhhhhhh I fell in love!!! It was so nice and so soft... I just have to make one!!!
The pattern is in one of the past Easy Knitting mag.. The one with the "wavy like colorful poncho on the cover..
I know I have it somewhere.. I'll have to look for it.. I hope I did not leave it in Florida...And the yarn she said she got at A.C. Moore
Anyway.. As for the GUILD... It was a great afternoon.. I am so Happy that I decided to go.. They had a Yarn Swap and freep Knit magazines and Patterns to take what you want.. So I have alot of knit browsing to do tonight :) :happydance:
Oh.. And the yarn that I got in ezchange for what I brought!! Woohoooooooo Its Fabulous!!!! :inlove:

Kemp did you start yet?????

Not yet...I just got my box from KnitWerx today though. I bought one skein of this (http://knitwerx.com/yarn.aspx?id=427) yarn thinking I might use it for the hat. My friend is just the type to wear something in funky colors like that. I don't really think its going to work though. I have some bulky cotton blend though that I got on clearance that I planned on using beffore I saw the "Rio".

I started on a scarf last night just to do something "brainless". The yarn is AWESOME! Soooooo soft!

That scarf looks like it is SPARKLING. How strange. Really neat the yarn does that... I love it.

Btw, (should this be in a seperate post?) I would love to hear more about the Knitting Guild knitcrazy... Maybe I should do that. Does it cost much?
I wonder if there's one in New York... will go do a search. I guess you can learn new things etc.

I haven't been here for so long oh my god...

Thanks KNitcrazy! I'm in Manhattan but also have a place upstate
(Delaware County). I did do a check and there are two groups in Manhattan. It sounds really nice. I'm going away for a few weeks though so what with being in the country and all, I think I'll wait til the fall.

cheers, V.

Yes... Wait till the fall..
I can only be a member for about 5 months because we go to Florida from Nov to June :)

But its so nice to have someone around who knits and shares their knowledge .. It makes it alot more Fun and interesting!

Hilde...I was thinking of casting on the hat today, but then I saw the gauge and it won't work for the yarn I have. Ok, it COULD work, but I would have to figure out the modifications, and I really don't feel like doing that right now. Did you come across any other "bucket" hat patterns?

Hilde, I just love  love the striped hat that you first showed in this thread. You did not find anything like it yet, did you? Where did you get the original picture from?

Hildegard_von_Knittin
07-26-2005, 02:03 PM
Kemp, I can probablly help you figure out the math to change it so your yarn works for thathat.

WFY, I got that picture from, of all places, EBAY!!!!!!! Isn't it gorgeous! When I saw it I thought "I should get that--NO, I should KNIT THAT!!!!!!!!"-- and now I'm sorry that i didn't bid on it, because it's become this fantastical ideal that I will never be able to recreate....

Still havent' started my hat yet  I just have too much OTN already....
