View Full Version : I need a scarf suggestion...

07-11-2005, 07:58 AM
A while back, I made THIS HAT (http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/hatrollbrim.htm) for DH's aunt using THIS YARN (http://www.bernat.com/product.php?LGC=denimstyle) in "Weathered Rose".

Since she doesnt wear wool ( :?? ) I can't make her FT Clogs for Christmas. SO - I was thinking about making her a scarf to match the hat. I REFUSE to knit a garter st scarf, but I also dont want cables or eyelashes.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a "funner" scarf?

ooooooh what about that knitty gritty cross over scarf? this one here (http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_3520331,00.html)

i am wanting to see someone else do it cuz i tried it once and i just couldn't do it and have it look neat. Of course i had been knitting for about five minutes so maybe i should try it again now..lol. i think it is veddy perdy!

That scarf is SO pretty, but this yarn, I think, is too thick for that pattern, and it doesnt look too warm....

NO NO NOOOOOO! Come baaaaaack! I really APPRECIATE it!! REALLY!

*KellyK on her knees begging forgiveness*

lol...okay cuz i don't really wanna go to work anyway.

How about just a simple rib knit or seed stitch scarf? Not very exciting but no holes so should be fairly warm I looked at my stash of scarf patterns and there really isn't much that is exciting in there.

still looking

07-11-2005, 10:22 AM
I like those, Nik!

Im still checking all at knittingpatterncentral, too.

FWIW, Denim Style knits up soooo nicely in seed stitch, or moss stitch, or whatever you want to call it. I finished a swing coat out of it last month. :D

Here are the ones Im considering SO FAR....

(Im kinda partial to this one...)

07-11-2005, 10:53 AM
:cheering: http://www.canknit.com/free/kos.html ...like this one I do. :) there was one in the Lion Brand catalog that came last week that I just love too: http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922209616.html. It is more of a wrap but it looks so warm and comfy. Good luck with your decision! :balloons:

If you are making it to match the hat... I agree the 2nd one OR the last one. I love the 1st one but to me it doesn't "go" with the hat.

07-11-2005, 12:05 PM
Hi Kelly,

I like the second one on your list - the one you said you were partial to.

I think it will look great with the hat, and really ELEGANT!

07-11-2005, 12:17 PM
Here's more so you can further boggle your brain. I think they'd all go good with the hat.

07-11-2005, 01:20 PM

I like those 2.
good luck Kelly! :D

I like the Martha scarf (http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel172064&rsc=tc16&page=1&site=) Rennagayle posted. I think it will go very well with a stockingette hat.

Sorry Kelly.. I am new here and I posted to you privatly when I was just going to answer the post..

I LOVE the pink scarf with the beads and the scrunchie one..
Did you choose one yet and what yarn will you be using?

07-11-2005, 06:26 PM
I vote for #2 in your list or #4. #1 doesn't go with the hat, and #3's pattern would get lost in the yarn I think. #5 is probably best with variegated yarn. I have #2 on my personal to-do list, but I don't have a yarn in mind yet...it's sooo purty and you get to use BEADS!

I like this one so much

Happy knitting!!

07-11-2005, 08:05 PM
OH MAN! Everybody likes different ones! Although, seems like the beaded one (no. 2) is winning a little...

I like that Zippety Quick one, Renna!

Thanks for your input, everybody!

I haven't looked at the other links yet...but I have this one on my list of "To do's"

My So Called Scarf (http://www.sheepinthecity.prettyposies.com/archives/000079.html)

07-12-2005, 08:00 PM
I just made a swatch of the Scrunchable scarf....it knits up SOOOO soft! I can see where it got its name! I used a needle 1 size larger that what the yarn calls for. Im gonna swatch up the one with the beads, too, but I think this is a VERY strong contender!

07-12-2005, 09:21 PM
Have you seen the Scarf Style Book? I forget who wrote it. I just sent it back to the library. That second one is pretty fancy. Is she a fancy gal? Or more practical? Which one do youthink she would like?

07-12-2005, 09:41 PM
I think she falls somewhere inbetween, actually. *shrugs shoulders*

My library is sadly lacking in knitting books, but its worth a check! Thanks, Femmy!

Steph...Im gonna make this out of fall-colored LB Jiffy for a friends' birthday! Thanks!

08-09-2005, 08:15 PM
Oh Great suggestion.... I saw a beautiful Fall Mix Jiffy in Michaesl and was trying to think of what to make with it...
Thanks.. The So Called Scarf in Jiffy!!! Thanks Kelly!!! :happydance:

08-09-2005, 08:18 PM
KK, I vote for the 'scrunchable scarf' ....having used that yarn for quite a few projects last Christmas, I think that one would look very nice with this particular yarn....IMHO ;)
fyi....I'm doing that grey open lace scarf, too...forget the name..lol! But I have it in my pattern book!!

08-09-2005, 08:52 PM
OH...Im making the scruchable scarf for DH's aunt in Denimstyle for Christmas...but, I forgot that a friend's birthday is comin up in 2 weeks, and I HAVE this jiffy that was given to me by a coworker. I can make scarves til the cows come home! :cheering:

I hope there are no cows reading this...

08-10-2005, 09:23 AM
I love the idea of the one with the beads. That will make it more "funner". I keep wanting to try that (knitting w/beads) but haven't figured out a project yet. I would love to make that knitty bracelet but 0000 needles ???? *gasp* I don't think I'm quite ready for that.

08-10-2005, 01:53 PM
Could you tell me where the scrunchable scarf is again.. I forget what it looks like

08-10-2005, 02:54 PM
There is a link to it on page one of this thread....

08-10-2005, 08:26 PM
Thanks Kelly..

Oh Yes... That one is Pretty Also!!!

08-11-2005, 08:23 AM
I just finished this one out of a Schaefer Yarn "Laurel" in the Sheri Lewis Colorway I changed the pattern CO number of stitches to make it wider though . I'll add a picture to my Yahoo Photos after Midwest Stitches.

08-11-2005, 09:40 AM
OOH! I LIKE that one, Dee!

08-11-2005, 09:43 AM
me too. :cheering: Printed the pattern off to take with me to CT. My daughter will love this! Thank you for posting, Licensed2Cook! anne
