Hello All,

You ladies (and gents!) always have the best ideas, so I am sure you can help me here :D

My mom is having knee replacement surgery in mid-August. So, I wanted to knit her up something to give as a gift while she is healing away.

I was thinking of a scarf, but wanted a nice pretty one, but not all frilly, but something light. A more decorative type of scarf, rather than one that keeps you warm. I know there are tons of free patterns out there for these, but was hoping you guys could share a favorite of yours. Or any other ideas on what to knit up for her?

Thanks a bunch!

How about Branching Out from Knitty? It's light and pretty and probably fun to do. I'm not in the market for a scarf right now, but I've kept it in mind for future reference. ;)

I was JUST asking for scarf suggestions...check out this thread (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2511&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=scarf&start=0)!

I would also suggest a "learn to knit" kit if your mom doesnt know how already...its the perfect activity for convalescence! ;)

Speaking as someone with much hospital experience (bunch of hip replacements and other hip/leg related things) I can tell you that she is going to be THRILLED that you have done this for her :D

And KK is right about the 'Learn to Knit' kit. My disability is what started my knitting last year and I've not stopped and it all started from a simple 'learn to knit' kit. If u r giving this a thought just pm or email me & I will tell you what my husband got for me...it was just right ;) .
I am planning on doing this scarf myself...it's beautiful http://www.canknit.com/free/kos.html.
As is this feather & fan scarf http://www.suanknits.com/lacescarf.html
Hope u find one!

oh no, no knitting for her :fingerwag: she needs to finish MY baby blanket (I am 32 weeks pregnant). Yes, that is "MY", not her grandchild's, but her daughter's baby blanket! :D So, I am over 32 years old, my mom's a little slow.... ;) heehee. That is a good idea though, maybe give her a knitting project (she used to knit or crochet or both a long time ago). She plans on making a baby quilt for the baby, so I will have to check out the progress on that :D

Love all the ideas, I really like this one: http://www.canknit.com/free/kos.html - very simple, but so pretty, this would be perfect for my mom!!
