View Full Version : Target Learn to Knit kit review

I FINALLY found a small section of these "Learn to Knit" kits at my NEW IMPROVED SuperTarget today....

I bought the dog toys one because Ive been pondering designing a pattern for felted dog bone toys & wanted to see how they did the bone shaping.

This thing is HORRIBLE. Most of the booklet contains basic knitting instruction.....the pics are WAYYYY too small, and the instructions are :?? at best. I havent watched the DVD that comes with it...Ill check that out, but any poor newbie that buys one of these things is gonna quickly give up in exasperation, IMHO.

The 3 actual patterns are on the back of the booklet in VERY small print. They are not written like a normal pattern, again, will be confusing the first time a newbie DOES see a real pattern.

I kinda like the metal tapestry needle that came with the set, and the sz 7 straights are the same color as Denises...Ill have to see if they knit the same.

The (cotton?) yarn is pretty soft.

Ill review more after Ive actually knit with this thing.

I saw those kits at my Target this weekend, and almost bought the furry slippers kit. I decided to pass them up....I don't think I'll go back to get them after your experience with the dog toys...

I had no idea... I was thinking about getting the bikini pattern (I have an obsession with bikini patterns even though I probably wont wear them), and now I dont think I will. I have plenty of patterns and it just looks like sugar n cream stuff ...

I saw a similar kit at Wal-Mart yesterday. The yarn is rolled into a HUGE ball and they have directions for 2 different projects to make with it. Supposedly enough yarn to do both. The yarn looked pretty tacky though, so didn't buy it.

I saw a bunch of different project packs at Michaels today..

Right above the knitting thing with the 4 rings in it :) Which was sitting next to the Sweater Knitting Machine..

ughhh..

OK - my sis was over & wanted to learn to knit, so I watched the DVD with her. Not bad..... Close up views, slow movements. It would work pretty well for a newbie. I sent her home with it along with the link to KH, of course!

Also, the needles that come with the kit are okay. I gave her those, too....they feel very much like Denises.
