All of the above, I'm afraid, all of the above. You forgot to include

Because I'm mad at someone
Because I'm bored
Because I'm happy
Because I'm stressed
Just because

If it's in the 40% off bin, then it is because it is pretty. If it is reagular priced then it is with a project in mind.

I buy yarn with project in mind. I do have quite a bit of yarn that I used to just buy bc it was there & I was in the store, although it's the type of yarn that I really no longer use, but have it for my doggie fashions & baby clothes bc it's all machine washable ;)

Because it's on SALE or HAS NO BIDS :P
oh yeah, has to be pretty too - how embarrassing, that's how I voted. Though sometimes I DO buy it for a specific project or person.

Let's see :??
I buy something because I think it's pretty and it has a project to go with it...but also because...
1.the color amazes me
2.it feels fabulous
3.it's wednesday
4.i want to
5.hubby doesn't want me to
6.the cat told me it was ok
7.it's thursday
8.the sun came up
9.the moon is out
10.i woke up this morning
11.i lost a pound
12.i gained two pounds
13.because who else is going to give it a loving caring home like me?

what about the fact that someone even TALKED about yarn, told a good yarn, or mentioned your favorite LYS.

I buy with a project in mind...if "oh! this could make a neat hat!" counts as a project. :P

Just treat the whole situation as if it were normal. (Well, it is our kind of normal, but you know what I mean.) So when he says "YOU BOUGHT ALL THIS?", you respond calmly with "Of course, dear, I knit," give him a quick peck on the cheek, then go on about your business.

Or just hide it.

Or mix it in with the other yarn and feign discovering it: "Ooh, I forgot I had this!"

I go along with "because it's on sale and I might not find it at that bargain again", then go for the pretty colors.

Yarn shopping is definately my antidepressant of choice.

LOL actually if I wake up in a depressed mood my dh will say "Do you wanna go yarn shopping?" And he means the store in the next big town! Oh yeah! I thought we were just staying together for the kids, till I heard him say that! :roflhard: Nah, hes my sweetie.

Carol, Aurora 8 is fantabulous, that was my major addiction for a while too!

I find it stressful for some reason to buy yarn unless I have a project in mind! I get it home, and I'm like, OMG I just spent all that money; now what am I going to make with this? Panic! I can't feel comfortable having spent the money, until I have a project planned for it. Of course I'm good at inventing projects on the spot when i see a pretty yarn. ;) And the project is likely to change! Doesn't matter, as long as I have something in mind when buying.

I have one more: because I'm in the store now, it looks cool, and I don't want to come back later when I decide I really do want it for a project.

LaDivaLisa

Definitely if it's for a project... but I'm embarrassed to admit that I have bought because it looks so beautiful. (And of course, the inexpensive yarn never looks that good!).
