View Full Version : scarves and hats and sweaters, oh my!

I've been knitting up a storm! I feel like a have a bit of a handle on my Christmas knits now.

Still no modeling from Jim, so I'm posting the sweater anyway. Putting in the zipper was a PITA! I now have an intimate relationship with the seam ripper.

Everything else is great too, but that sweater kinda steals the show. ;)

Thanks Silver! That means a lot coming from you :)

It took forever though...took 27 skeins of Jo Sharp Silkroad Ultra and weighs a ton! I started it Oct. 6 and finished on Sunday. I worked on it an hour or two each night.

Oh man.. I can almost feel it... seriously, I have goosebumps thinking about it. I love the cozy feeling from a heavy sweater. What gem you've made. Just lovely! :cheering:

Just in case anyone (Kristin!) is interested the pattern is in THIS (http://debbieblissonline.com/books/bk4/index.htm) Debbie Bliss book. It's actually a woman's pattern, but Jim loved the cables so much he didnt' care. Plus I got lucky...the yarn I wanted to use was a bigger gauge and the math worked out so I could just follow the instructions for the woman's small (he's 6'4" and has LONG arms. thus the amount of yarn.) For a woman's small it's only 15 balls aran weight.

Wow great stuff! And that sweater, the cables are amazing! I am nervous about tackling cables for fingerless mitts, but to do them in a sweater, wow.

11-17-2005, 02:04 PM
Cheryl, everything's great, but that sweater...OMG, gorgeous!!

11-17-2005, 02:20 PM

Everything is beautiful but that sweater is just stunning! I hope I can knit like that someday :D

11-17-2005, 02:23 PM
Thanks everyone! The sweater really wasn't hard...just time consuming...not a mindless knit but fun. Don't let cables scare you off. If you can knit and purl, you too, can have this sweater.

The only thing is I want one too, but with the amount of time it took I am pretty sick of that pattern right now.

Wow, that sweater (and everything else) looks great! Beautiful job!

These are gorgeous! That sweater looks hard to me!

11-17-2005, 02:40 PM
 WOW, Kempy......just......WOW.

Tell Mr. Jim the only way he can TRULY show his appreciation is by putting himself on show for all of your KH friends!!

11-17-2005, 03:05 PM
Kemp, of course all your things are gorgeous, but like everyone else I have to comment on that sweater. It's fantastic.
It's one of those things I'd put on the list to grab first if you ever had to get out of the house fast, LOL.

11-17-2005, 03:09 PM
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: Too funny! But good point...I sure wouldn't want to make another one that size! I'll tell Jim it must be on his "grab it" list :roflhard: :roflhard:

Stunning! Everything, Kemp, is so well done. Your color and yarn choices are great, too. What yarns did you use in the matching hat and scarf and for Jayne's scarf. All beautiful!

11-17-2005, 03:42 PM

The Jayne Scarf is Paton's Divine in Floral Fantasy. I just CO 15 with #17 needles and did garter stitch. It is VERY soft and it only takes one skein to make a scarf about 70"

The "hat and scarf" is acutally a sweater! You can't tell yet but the round part is the body and the two straight pieces are the sleeves. I'm just getting ready to attach them all and knit the chest/collar. The yarn is from Italy. I wrote about it on my blog today if you want more details.

:cheering: I add my compliments to everyone elses! Just beautiful!!

11-17-2005, 04:18 PM
Okay ... I went to your blog, Kemp ... and now I can see that it's a sweater (duh!).

I am SO jealous of your yarn adventure. You SHOULD brag! I was in Italy in May (2 weeks in Tuscany)and hadn't started knitting yet, so I didn't go to even 1 yarn store while there. :( :(

11-17-2005, 04:32 PM
not so duh...it looks exactly like a hat and scarf in that pic. I guess I forgot to mention that since I had written about it on my blog this morning.

Too bad you weren't knitting then. You wouldn't belive that store...it's still the best one I've even been in.

11-17-2005, 04:37 PM
that sweater is to die for! I love it

11-17-2005, 05:03 PM
:inlove: :inlove: BEAUTIFUL stuff, Kemp!! Gosh... that sweater... GORGEOUS! You should be SO proud of yourself.

11-17-2005, 05:36 PM
Cheryl, as usual, everything is fantastic...but I, like everyone must say WOW on the sweater!! And I don't think all of that work being done from Oct 5 until now is a long time for THAT SWEATER...JMHO ;)
:notworthy: STUNNING WORK :happydance: :cheering: :happydance:

11-17-2005, 07:40 PM
Simply goooooooooooooorgeous!!! JIM, PUT THE SWEATER ON FOR US!!!!! :D

11-17-2005, 07:57 PM
took 27 skeins of Jo Sharp Silkroad Ultra

Holy cow! Gotta love JO Sharp though

11-17-2005, 08:07 PM
Kempy...why is it that I have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of your blog to see the pics?? Its like they wont fit in between the side bars...

11-17-2005, 08:17 PM
Love, love, love the sweater! I agree, cables are not too bad, but that sweater looks like it took such love and hard work. It is beautiful. Oh yeah, and the rest of the stuff is pretty too! ;)

11-17-2005, 10:50 PM
WOW Great job Kemp!!

11-18-2005, 09:48 AM
Thanks everyone! I know...27....can you believe it?! That is one expensive sweater. At least I got it on sale.

KK...is it still doing that? If so please give the specific URL so I can check it out. It shows up fine for me, but I did do a little testing yeserday, so you might have caught it durning that time.

11-18-2005, 10:33 AM
Its always done that....on any of the gallery pages.

11-18-2005, 11:32 AM
ut oh...I see the problem...has to do with window size...the gallery part doesn't resize on a smaller screen so it pushes it to the bottom. Not sure how to fix it at this moment...I'll have to work on that. If any of you techie people read this and know an easy fix, please let me know.

11-19-2005, 12:58 AM
All of you stuff looks FANTASTIC, Kemp. I'm really loving the sweater. :cheering:
