I have that one, but I can't say it's my favorite. I really liked Debbie Bliss' How to Knit when I was starting out - it has lots of stitch patterns, info on color knitting, cable knitting, even entrelac. But it's missing several cast on techniques. To make up for that, I have Finishing Techniques by Nancie Wiseman - I frequently refer to this one for different cast on techniques as well as various increases and decreases, seaming, etc. I would say this is my number one reference book now for when I can't get to KH.

I don't have one yet either, but I have The Knitter's Bible (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0715317997/104-1551390-5356758?v=glance&n=283155&%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&no=283155&st=books) on my wish list! It looks pretty comprehensive to me! Not a small book though so may be better at home. I found this small one called The Knitter's Companion (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0715317997/104-1551390-5356758?v=glance&n=283155&%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&no=283155&st=books) that looks good and it's also on my list.

Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book is great, but it is rather large so taking it with you places may not work. They make a pocket size one though that is also pretty good.

Second the Knitters Bible!!!

When I was first learning I just kept getting stuck. Couldn't figure out how to do things even after I watched the videos here 20 times. I was in Barnes & Noble and that book caught my eye. I picked it up sat on the floor and read and went home and picked it right up.

The pictures are VERY good and has all kinds of projects and patterns in it.
