View Full Version : FO - Trellis Stitch Scarf

I've posted requests for help here enough times that I thought it's about time I posted a finished object.

This is a scarf done in trellis stitch out of RYC Cashsoft, color "crush". It feels so soft and cushy...too bad I've already sent it off to its new home for Christmas.

Oh wow, that's fantastic! :happydance:

Is that smocking I see??

12-20-2005, 06:38 PM
Smocking? Since I don't know what that is, my answer is no, there is no smocking.

I found the stitch at about.com. Here it is:
Trellis Stitch

Multiple of 6 stitches + 5

row 1: (RS) k1, p3, *keeping yarn at front of work, sl 3 purlwise, p3; rep from * to last st, k1
row 2: p1, k3, *keeping yarn at back of work, sl 3 purlwise, k3; rep from * to last st, p1
row 3: k1, p3, *k3, p3; rep from * to last st, k1
row 4: p1, k3, *p3, k3; rep from * to last st, p1
row 5: k5, *insert point of right hand needle upwards under the 2 strands in front of the sl sts and knit the next st, then lift the 2 strands over the point of the right hand needle (referred to as pull up loop henceforth), k5; rep from * to end
row 6: As 3rd row
row 7: p1, *keeping yarn at front sl 3 purlwise; p3; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl 3 purlwise, p1
row 8: k1, *keeping yarn at back sl 3 purlwise, k3; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl 3 purlwise, k1
row 9: As 4th row
row 10: As 3rd row
row 11: k2, *pull up loop, k5; rep from * to last 3 sts, pull up loop, k2
row 12: As 4th row

rep these 12 rows

I cast on 29 stitches and used just over two balls of the yarn...three, including the tassels.

That is amazing!! I love it. I'm glad you posted the stitch- I might have to try that one. Great job- I'm sure the recipient will be THRILLED!

I believe that is smocking. Where you slip numbers of stitches, then later on insert needle in the middle, etc.

Whatever it is, it looks GREAT!

Very nice--so different!! I may have to try that one of these days.

That is a beautiful scarf, you did a fantasic job! Do you happen to know what the weight of that yarn is and what needle size you used?

I have a friend who will love it, thanks for the pattern!

12-22-2005, 11:13 AM
According to a website, the yarn has a gauge of 22 stitches per 4.0 inches/10cm on size 6 needles. I don't know what weight that makes it; anyone? I used size 8 needles for mine.

Thank you, everyone, for the compliments. With the help of this site, I learned to knit almost a year ago. I'm still picking up things as I go along, but your comments are making me feel like I just might know what I'm doing! Thank you so much.

Pattern looks a bit complicated for me just yet but when I gain a bit more experience I might give it a go.

:?? Loved to see a picture of the stitch I had just researched and found on about.com. It happens to be in the aran sweater pattern of my family name, so I'm trying to learn how to do it. I'm having a problem understanding row 5, though. Any helpful hints?
