The beautiful baby is not mine, but I can take credit for the blanket. It is a super easy and quick blanket to make (link below). I used Wendy Velvet Touch yarn (4 skeins) in color 1211 on size 7 needles. This yarn is very soft and easy to work with. The feel of the yarn and the varigated color gives interest to an otherwise simple stitch.
Since I had 4 skeins of yarn and wanted to use it all without running short or having too much left over, I worked the increase portion until I had used almost two skeins (half) of the yarn. Just before running out on the second skein, I started the decrease portion of the pattern. You'll use virtually all the yarn and end up with a perfect square (sorry I didn't get final measurements before I sent it off to my friend in FL).
