View Full Version : Scarves galore

Well, I got all the scarves done for my four nieces and one nephew just in time for Christmas. In between making the Christmas scarves, I worked on this multi-colored scarf for myself. I've learned that stockinette curls, but that's ok, because this was just a fun practice scarf using 75¢ recycled yarn from this (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/files/dscn2832x400.jpg)sweater.
I'm really, really, really going to move onto something more challenging... like a hat on circular needles to go with that scarf since I still have quite a bit of that yarn.

The picture of you with the striped scarf looks like an ad! You've been a knitting machine! Everything looks great--and go for the hat. It'll be fun.

Machine? Nah... just a little free time. The colors of the multi scarf are really much better than the picture shows and the furry once are much 'funner-looking' in person. LOL, my DH came upstairs just as the camera's self timer was about to take the picture... does kinda look like an ad though.

Wow! Fantastic work! I love the striped one in particular! (you know, the one in the ad! :rofling: )

You got all that from one sweater?

Dang, I wish! Nah, just the multi colored. I have to add that it was a lot of work recovering, washing, and re-balling that yarn - not for the impatient type at all. The others scaves are about 3/4 skeins of Homespun each except for the boys blue and white which is way smaller than the girls extra long scarves.
Off to Michaels!!! :happydance: :XX: :happydance:

Where did you get the sweater? Is it velour type yarn? I love the scarf! Very funky!

The scarves look great! That's a great piccie of you too, it really does look like an ad!
I bought some sweaters at the thrift store to recycle the yarn...but strangely enough, they're still sweaters  :?? guess I'm not the patient type, lol.

The yarn was salvaged from a sweater from the thrift store. 75¢ yielded a bit more than 1/2 pound. I'm not really sure what type yarn it is. It doesn't stretch at all... more like a very short slightly fuzzy eyelash. Here's my original post (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?p=44836&highlight=#44836) when I was unravelling, washing and re-rolling. This is my first recycled project and like Jaxhil I still have 3 sweaters in waiting  but nothing as colorful as this find. I'm having fun with the yarn and hate to see it get all used up.
I did recycle some wool that I'm dreaming about making (trying to make) the felted clogs with.
LOL, I guess I do look like a low-budget ad. :)
