View Full Version : OT: Notification problems?

Just wondering... is it just me, or does the notification option for watching threads have a tendency to stop working? Here I was thinking everyone had gone strangely quiet, but it's just that none of the threads are notifying me anymore! :??

Some people have mentioned that. Check at the bottom of the threads and make sure that the line on the bottom says that you want to be notified. It's supposed to automatically notify you if you've responded, but people have notices a glitch.

I've not had any notification problems, do you have the "notify me when a reply is posted" box checked? Just asking cos that's something I would miss.

From what I understand, you only get one notice unless you go back to the thread. Like for this thread, I will get a notice the next time another reply is left. I will not receive any more notices about this thread until I come back and read the thread again. Then I will get one notice... yadda yadda yadda.
This system is not perfect, but it does work at least 90% of the time IMO.

Well, it worked this time! :D But yes, I do have the notify option checked off, and yes, I know about the having to click through the notification to get another one... maybe it is just a rare glitch...

some of us have been having problems, but Kelly has said that she'll PM Amy to check on it and see what might be happening...

You also noted this in the emails you get right:
"This topic has received a reply since your last visit. You can use the following link to view the replies made, no more notifications will be sent until you visit the topic."
phpBB (the software that runs the forum) does this so that you will not get HUNDREDS of emails about the same thing.. until you visit the thread.
so if you get a email, and ignore it.. you won't get replies until you visit the thread again..
:) also helps on bandwidth on the server :)
