Here's a shot of what I've done so far on my first ever knitting "adventure."

You can see where the first rows of edges look pretty bad, and then I was told how to "slip a stitch" to make them look better. I also have a couple of mess-ups here and there, but hey — it's my first ever knitting!

It's supposed to be 50 inches long and I'm right about 14 now, so only THIRTY-SIX more to go! I also have to learn what to do with the starter thread where I first began to cast-on...

Maury,
Your scarf looks great! I love the colors and the patterns in the yarn. Looks pretty good for a first project--my first project was a poncho. I cast on 40 and was knitting away for days. Then I realized I kept picking up stiches and had over 60! I had to frog the whole thing and start over. :(

By the time you get to the end of the scarf, I bet you'll be able to see improvement in tension as you go. It'll be a great learning experience--you're on your way!!

It's looking great! Pretty colors, too. When you finish, you can just weave that end in with a yarn needle.

You're scarf is very even and looks great!

When I am feeling down, I go back and look at my first scarf and have a good laugh. It doesn't look anything like yours. I could tell a fib and say the pattern I used called for it to be "wavy", but I just keep it hidden in the closet.

It loosk great! I love the yarn, it gives your scarf a zig zag shade... :)

What I do with the yarn left from casting on is use it as a fringe... here is a video that teaches you how to do it... Elongated Stitch Scarf (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/getting_started/) the fringe is at the very end of the first video for this scarf. :)

It does look great!

I "cheated" on my first project. I used the eyelash thread so it covered over and mistakes I made with sheer fuzziness!

Very nice, indeed! I am also dying to know what yarn you have used for your scarf. My son would *love* it, his favorite two colors are blue and green.

I see you have your yarn in a container, too. Very smart!

You're off and running with a beautiful first project!! Are you planning to put fringe on? If so, here's my fringe tip:

- Cut fringe for the bottom before you finish the scarf and count how many pieces you used (e.g., 3 strands * 15 knots = 45 strands total).
- Then cut the same number of strands for the other end of the scarf and set them aside until you're finished with the scarf.
- Doing this ahead of time helps you use all the yarn you have without worry of running short!

Good luck and keep on knitting!

I don't know what kind of yarn it is — this project is one of those "Cup of Yarn" things you may have seen in stores. It doesn't give any details at all.

However, my wife and I DID buy some goodies for our next projects, so once we start those, I'll finally be able to give all the nitty-gritty like I'm supposed to!

And yes, I'll be fringing this scarf, so thanks for the tip (even though I don't understand it yet). :)
