Hey everyone! Do any of you know where I can find nice patterns for:
a) a light shrug that I can use during ballet class
b) LONG (well past my knees) legwarmers with a stirrup bottom, also for ballet class?

It's so cold in our studio and I would love to have some pretty things to wear and keep me warm! And, not only is buying them not nearly as much fun as knitting them, it's a lot less expensive!

cheers!

I'll study my leggings and see if I can't help you make up a pattern. I remember seeing one for sale on a website a while back, but I like free stuff :)

I looked for the pattern that was for sale, but couldn't find it anyway..

My boyfriend's a genious...Here's what I got so far

Knit in the round (maybe using that legging sock pattern up there, but with a k1,p1 ribbing at the top so they dont slide down)

And then once you get to the heel, cast off a bunch of the stitches on the bottom and leave some up top(enough to cover the top of your foot), knit a few rows (maybe 3-5 depending on the size of the yarn and preference for the stirrup) and then cast on that same number of sts for the midle part of your foot (do this in ribbing maybe so it's snug?) And just knit until it reaches your toes and bind off loosely.

Hope this helps! The end product will look like a tube with a slit near the bottom.

I couldn't figure out how. Maybe I'm just stupid. I'll try again. Thanks for pointing it out.

This shrug (http://beatknitpatterns.blogspot.com/2005/08/bell-sleeve-shrug.html) pattern is really simple. Without the bell sleeves (which don't work that great for dancing anyway) it is just a long rectangle. All you do is sew up both ends and leave the middle flat. If you measure from wrist to wrist with your arms stretched out to the side that should give you the perfect length so it stretches across your back a little and doesn't slip. They use woolease but I would think you could use any type of yarn for a lighter finished product. That is what I am doing.

Oh..... so you can delete your post as long as no one has posted after you... I understand now.

My mom made the "Otis" ballet wrap sweater for my dsis for Christmas. It's really cute and looks simple too. You can find it on knitty.com.
