Thanks Ing--I wonder how long the sale is--I'll be w/ a student at that time but I could probably log on later...

The email doesn't give an end date. I have a feeling it's until they're sold out--lots of mention of first come-first served, limited quanities.

Man, that server is HOSED. How could they not know that this sale was going to generate a ton of traffic???

In any case, I don't think it's going to let up...I'm picturing about a million knitters, all sitting at their computers, knitting while they're waiting for the pages to load. :roflhard:

Angelia

Gee, the pages take FOREVER to load! Are there more knitters out there than we think, or is this site on a teeny tiny server?

Ingrid
01-24-2006, 05:07 PM
Well, I've been one of the knitters sitting in front of my computer, too. I managed to get a book into my cart, but then I couldn't get back to it. Sheesh!

wow once i got to paypal to check out, it was like bein' on a rocket ship!

okay i am off their server...whose turn is next?

(got three books for the retail price of the one Nicky Epstein book! :happydance: )

now the question is, exactly how hurt ARE these books? cuz ya know i will be whinin' when they come and i have forgotten that they were hurt when i ordered them! :rofling:

Man, I keep trying to check out and can't! Sigh. I'm getting that Folk Bags book, which looks really cute, and the Crocheters Companion, I think it's called (I'm learning to crochet).

Would have liked a few more but that's about all the time I have to go through the pages!

You know, when I was shopping, the whole thing was under a directory called "devstuff/hurt". Now it's just "hurt".

I bet they had this whole thing on a backup/test server and only now have it on their main server. Sounds like somebody didn't expect all of this traffic! LOL.

Congrats on your purchases!

I managed to get one book in my cart, but now I can't get the pages to load; they get 3/4 of the way there and then just seem to hang.

I am VERY irritated.

brendajos
01-24-2006, 05:31 PM
well it would probably help if they weren't trying to upload a picture with every book too. I wasn't waiting for all the picks on the page to load before i clicked either on a book or on the next page. Cuz i know without seeing the cover that i am not going to care about a book on eccinacea!

a lot of times it was just stuck and needed an F5 to bump it in the butt...

SCORE!!

I managed to get the Knitter's Handy Book of Ptterns, Best of Rowan, and Hand Knits for the Home--all for about $50.

The should have separated the herbal stuff from the knitting books, though. Everytime I managed to get a new page loaded, the number of available books went down. Wonder what I missed?

They have a copy of "The Dyer's Garden" on the hurt sale.

I have this book, and recommend it highly to any of you who are into spinning/dyecraft.

Hand knits for the home sounds great! I considered getting that one, I can't remember why I decided against it.

I was finally able to check out and pay - I ended up with Folk Bags, Knitter's Stash and Crocheter's Companion! All for less than $40.

So how many pages of books were there to begin with, anyway? I couldn't get the page to load this morning, and then I had an appointment to keep, so I didn't see the offerings until this evening. When I first looked, there were 12 pages. Now there are 9 pages. I'm wondering about all the fabulous books I missed.

(I already tried to put a book in my cart that is sold out. Grrr.)

I picked up Knitter's Stash, Handknits for the Home, and Folk Bags. I really wanted Felted Knits and Yarns to Dye For, so don't tell me if those were available earlier, okay?!? :rofling:

About nine pages left, much quicker loading!

Why does "Knitting With Wire" remind me of trucker? ;)

How much is their shipping?

brendajos
01-24-2006, 11:57 PM
i got three books (or was it four? i can't remember now) for less than $7 shipping....it was $6 somethin'.....yarn costs more than that to ship!

Ingrid
01-25-2006, 12:02 AM
Mine was about $6 for three books. Not bad at all.

I wonder with the volume, how long it will be until we receive them?

Yeah, I was thinking about this, too. Of course, if it takes awhile, I can convince DH that they are a birthday present to myself, and therefore entirely justifiable. (B-day is in March.) ;)

Ingrid
01-25-2006, 12:06 AM
I think they're inherently justifyable just because they were 50% off!!

Not when one is attempting to save money to start one's own business.
