I'd like to adapt that pattern as a pomp with sideburns. I've never drafted my own pattern before so I'm kinda stuck. Any ideas? i know the sideburns would be easy, just make the rows shorter like ear flaps. It's more a matter of getting the height from the pomp in the front.

I figured this would double well as a beanie for a friend. He's going to be going on a big road trip in a couple months making his first film. (He's been writing for a long time, and this is the first film that's been produced... he will be co-directing it as well.)

The producers had the "brilliant" idea of making a whole 'making of..' documentary on the road... and I thought since he will be braving the great NW, and coming from orange county, he could use a good warm beanie.

So... any ideas?
