View Full Version : Balene ll vs Bryspun (DPNs)

Is one better that they other? About the same...? Why do u like one over the other? Which feels more like Denises? I've seen pics on the net...the tips look almost identical...

I saw some Bryspun on ebay..and the seller was saying that they are about the same but the Bryspun is better quality. Hmm??

I'm not sure which to go with. I have boyes, and bamboo already in many sizes. But want to add a different material to my collection. Something that feels like Denises. I want them to mirror Denises...smooth, and w/ pointy, tapered tips.

Wondering.... What length dpn do you prefer?

Thanks for your input all! :D

Fo rsocks, which seems the only thing I can concentrate on and actually finish besides a bag. I love my Brysun 5 inch dps. They're perfect for sock-knitting. I don't know about the other ones you mentioned. :??

They're pretty much going to be my "sock needles". 5 in. good, eh? Cool!

Thx for your help!!

So with the 5" you don't have problems with the stitches slipping off? Is there enough room for all the stitches without having them all squished together? :??

I'm a bit apprehensive to go with the 7 1/2" dpns Bryspun have cuz I'm not too crazy about the 7" dpns I have now (re: length). So.....7 1/2" I'm like...Ugh...

Hmm... What about hats? Were u able to use them for hats, or are they too short?

I have only used 5"s for socks, they seemed more user friendly than the 7 1/2's, however, there is that point where you pick up stitches...and you have alot of stitches skrinched on one needle......next time I do that, I am going to put those stopper things on.....

I just purchased some Balene II DPNs because they were inexpensive. They seem OK, but the tips on some of them are not completely smooth...they feel as thought they may catch on some yarns. I don't really know because I just tried them out a little and had no problem with them snagging the yarn used. May try Bryspun next time - especially if I want shorter needles.

The tips on the Baylene II straight needles feel fine. Bought the DPNs via mail order thru Joanne so couldn't inspect them before purchasing. Bought 3 different sizes and only tried out the 7s.

I recently ordered a few more Clover, and some Boye to complete the sizes I use most...So when those arrive I'll have sizes 3-8 in both.

Then I got all hyped up and started thinking about my Denise needles and how I wish there were DPNs that were pointy, and smooth like them. Hmm?

The next thing I know I'm posting like a mad woman trying to decide what to get. :?? Bryspun? Balene ll? ARGH!!! Lengths??

.....now I can CHILL and wait for them to come..YAY!!!!! :happydance:
I ended up ordering sizes 3-8.

I tried the Balene ll out briefly yesterday at the store...but left unsure cuz I wanted to find out more about the Bryspun. Then I did more researching and more LOL posting..and just decided to go with the Bryspun.

Too much thinking my brain hurts. (Darn headaches) GRR! Oh well....now it's all over with...AWWW.... :cheering:

Thx again all!

I got some Bryspun today. Gotta love ebay. The 7.5s Cuz I'm paranoid about losing stitches.
I think I'm gonna hafta go back and order some more when I can. Eventually I'll have one of every size and get a decent needle collection.
I haven't done too much with them yet, but I took a time out from my kitty projects and knit up a few rounds of the yarn that I got with it.

I really like them. Since using the Denise's I've realized I -really- prefer the resin to metal. I don't know exactly what the Bryspun are made of, but it's close enough for me. I think I'm really going to enjoy working with these. ^_^

Hmmm, I wonder if they'd dye as well as the Denise's....
