View Full Version : help! need a new set of cat ears

I am looking for a pattern for a hat or something like a hat that has cat ears on it. I did the one that stitch and bitch http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/costumes/catsears.htm put out but wasn't really happy with it, or rather the kid wasn't really happy with it. She wants something that looks more like what "Jose and the pussycats" would have worn. With pink inner ear parts and sitting more up front on the head. I am thinking she wouldn't care that it doesn't really have to be a hat so much as long as it has ears on it somewhere and can be attached to the head. But a hat to keep the head warm would be good in my opinion.
The dimensions would have to be for an adult teenager

Anyone have any patterns like that can think of a pattern like that or know where I can find a pattern like that? i am looking for and at differnt types of patterns since she wants to do this for all her friends too. Please reply and let me know. :XX:

Here is one pattern; maybe you could modify it.

How about this one? You can just put pink inside the ears.

That's the hat from the SnB book.

that is the one that i had knit it is from stitch and bitch. the problem with it is the ears sit to far back. this did not make the teenager happy. i like the pattern for the cat ears that just tie up on the top of the head that ingrid posted. im not very good at modifying pattterns to turn a set of ears like that into a full hat. (im still very new at the whole consept of following patterns, seriously, just stopped making scarves a month ago) but that is more where the ears should sit according to the kid if not a little closer together.

Thanks for the replies,

It's just a headband, but here's an idea also:

I knew I would find this thread :)

Just an idea, I will try and post a pick tomorrow.

I did a hat for my daughter, it was a k2,p2 rib on circular.

Instead of decreasing the top and adding the usual pom pom on top.

She wanted it closed straight along the top edge. So the hat looks like a square. (I have seen the kids wearing these lately).

But the funny thing was, the corners of it with the ribbing, poked right up like a perfect pair of cat ears.

I saw it and was like aha (one of those moments).

Here's the pattern I used, it would fit anywhere from a 5year old to adult.
The ribbing is really stretchy.

5mm needles (I used 12"circ, I think a 16 would be okay too)
I used bernat ( I think it was something like light and lofty??No label on it)
It was that soft stuff that has the white and (mine was blue) intertwined to give it a tweedy look. (reminds me of sock monkeys).
C.O 80 sts
Knit in around of K2.P2 for about 8"
Cast off
Lay flat and seam the top straight across.
I have never written a pattern so if it doesn't make sense just holler..:)

Pic to follow tomorrow.
