View Full Version : FO, FO, It's Off To Knit I Go! :-D

Well, I finished not ONE, but TWO projects this weekend.

First of all, here's a pair of socks that I finally finished for my DD. It's done in Lion Brand Magic Stripes Jelly Bean. I'm not particularly fond of the colorway, and it was impossible to find any pattern repeats in the yarn, hence the socks don't match. DD loves them that way!

Secondly, another Oregon Tote. This one done in WOTA Cherry Blossom, two strands together. The contrasting color is one strand of Cherry Blossom and one strand of Noro Kureyon #95.

Those are perfect socks for a young girl--I can see why she loves them--pretty funky to wear socks that don't match. Your bag is beautiful, too! :cheering:

Hi, Kim! :waving:

I used the pattern in The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1931499047/sr=1-1/qid=1139200395/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1256138-0859964?%5Fencoding=UTF8). Love that book!

Love the socks and bag! Great job!

Love the socks and the bag. I have to ask though - (I have not done socks yet - it's on my list and I bought self-striping sock yarn from Knit Picks) - how do you go about making them match?!

I love those socks! And that bag is absolutely gorgeous--the addition of the Kureyon is perfect! :inlove: :inlove:

Hi Ronda --

I'm probably not the right person to ask since this is my first pair of socks and I picked a yarn that was nearly impossible to match up!

BUT ... with most sock yarn, there is a definite pattern, and you just make sure that you start with the same color with each sock, or perhaps use a new ball for each sock, because I believe that each ball should start out the same.

If any of you experienced sock knitters would like to trump my answer here, please go ahead!

Both projects are awesome!

Personally I don't mind when the socks don't match. I like the fraternal rather than identical look.

Wonderful colors!

I'm making some self striped socks myself that don't match - even a 54 year old can get funky!

And I must add - YEAH! STEELERS!!!!!

:cheering:  those Steelers!

DotMom61: Thanks for the reply on how to match up the socks. I cannot wait to try my first pair. I'm going with Silver's tutorial. I have LOTS of sock yarn, too! ;-)

I didn't notice the socks didn't match 'til I read it.
First pair, you say??? You wouldn't tell a fib, would you?

That bag is beautiful!!!

You wouldn't tell a fib, would you?

Never! :---

But, really, these were my first pair. I've knit most of the way through other socks, but I never got past the heel for one reason or another. Now I'm hooked, and I can't wait to do another pair, which, incidentally, I need to have done by Friday! ;-)

And Thanks, everyone, for all the nice compliments!!! :cheering:

Great projects! I love the colors in the socks and the bag is just beautiful. Way to go!!

Who says socks have to match anyway. Cute socks, nice bag. You rawk!

02-07-2006, 11:14 PM
Matching stripes is so 2005, much better this way :rofling: seriously great job on the socks tho, did you use DPNS or circ's?
I particulary like the design of the bag, great colours, really interesting way of doing the handles...

02-08-2006, 12:56 PM
Thanks, Kittiminx. ;-)

I used DPNs for the socks; I'm going to be adventurous next time and try two circs, though. It's a little skeery. I would also LOVE to knit some socks with something other than K2,P2 ribbing on the cuff. Perhaps a lovely lace pattern or something. I'm getting really brave, eh?

Thats a great way to use up leftover Noro! (making mental note to self)....I have Noro to make 4 gift boogas - but just know that at the end of the day, am going to have half skeins left of all 4.....which of course I find so irritating, and I don't want to use my lovely Noro leftovers to make a Kitty Pi for my Pooey Foosums!

I love the socks too. The fact that they don't match makes them all the better in my book!

02-08-2006, 02:09 PM
Awesome job dotmom!!! :cheering:

02-08-2006, 02:41 PM
Fun socks...that they don't match is all the better. Can one use this yarn for things other than socks? Sounds like fun.

02-08-2006, 02:59 PM
The socks are adorable!

I love all the colors!

02-09-2006, 12:36 AM
Thanks, everyone!!!

And, lmc, of course you can knit something else with this yarn!! You are the master of your own knitting ... KNIT AWAY! :cheering: :roflhard:

I've made a hat using this yarn (see this post (http://dotmom61.blogspot.com/2005/11/my-first-hat.html) in my blog). Again, it must just be this yarn, but I didn't find that hat all that terrific. I guess I just don't like the randomness of the yarn, but I AM glad everyone else is enjoying it!!

I was also thinking this would be good yarn for some boy baby booties 'cause the small diameter would help the stripes to be thicker.
