Here is the sweater I'm working on. I can't wait to finish it! I've never made a sweater before, so wish me luck! It is going quickly, since the yarn is very thick. (Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick yarn)

The pattern comes from a book called "The Learn to Knit a Sweater Book", published by the American School of Needlework, in association with Lion Brand Yarn. I think I got the book at Michaels. The pattern is very easy, and fun to do. There are great instructions, with clear diagrams that really help. :XX:

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll be one proud knitter when I can wear that sweater. The color of the yarn is Spice, and it exactly matches the color my hair used to be when I was young. Now that I'm older, I'm turning blonde....in more ways than one. :??

You have inspired me! I have that book also, but have not made anything out of it yet. I saw that pattern, liked it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Also, I love that yarn--that's my favorite color. Maybe now, I can start a sweater, since I've seen how pretty yours looks. I've never used Lion Brand's Thick & Quick.

I just found the pattern book I am using for this chunky sweater on eBay for one penny! Somebody might want to grab it! (It is located in Canada, so be sure to check the shipping fee first.)

Ooh, I really like the pattern you're using, and the color is yummy. Good for you, knitting your first sweater! I haven't yet taken the plunge. I'm not a sweater wearer myself (too top heavy to like the way I look in them, and too hot-natured, to boot!). I'm thinking of making a baby sweater for my stepson's new baby, though. :D

That pattern looks really pretty! What size range does the book cover? Probably no plus sizes, eh?

Actually, I am plus-sized, so I know that it has my size! :D

The book has patterns that go from size Small up to size 3X.

Thanks. I've been concentrating on my spring "saguaro" sweater lately, but I'll get back to this sweater soon. I want to have it finished in time for fall!

Alert the media!!! It's been two and a half years, and I'm FINALLY working on this sweater again.
:teehee:

So far, I've finished the back and left front, and cast on the right front.

There's nothing like wearing a sweater you made yourself...it's like getting a soft, warm hug from your favorite person!:teehee:

Thank you all! I held up the left front to myself at a mirror last night, and I'm getting SOOOOO excited about finishing this!
:woohoo:
Maybe it will be ready in time for me to wear it at SAFF this year! (SAFF is the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair in the mountains of North Carolina at the end of October.)

The pattern is in a book that you can still buy, called "The Learn to Knit A Sweater Book".
Here's a link to buy it on Amazon:

Thank you all for the encouragement! :muah:

Sue, I think you'll really like the book. And, if you come across anyone else who is wanting to learn to knit a sweater, this book will be PERFECT for them as well. It walks you through every step of the process, with COMPLETE instructions and wonderful diagrams. I love it! I haven't had a single question during the entire project. So encouraging.

I'm almost finished with the right front now. I should be casting on the first sleeve tonight! :woohoo:

It sounds like you have found a good pattern. You have given it high marks for clarity. It really does help when the directions are clear.

Your project is looking good. I look forward to seeing the FO.

About hair color (and yours was lovely)....I was blonde as a young person, and have always felt like a blonde (not the dumb part), but my family just laughs at me. I tell them that not only am I a blonde, I am getting blonder all the time, and they just say, "Yeah, right." LOL

OMG! I'm the same way! I have so many knitting books....there is NO WAY I can remember what patterns I have. I need to scan them all, then organize them by category so I really know what I have.

:) I miss my red hair, but I don't mind being a blonde. I think I got more attention when I was a redhead though....but it was probably because I was young, cute, and thin at the time. :teehee:

I'm almost finished with all the knitting! The back, left front, and right front are all done. I've doing both sleeves at the same time, so they will be the same length.

Thanks Dollyce! I like it too, and I KNOW it will be warm.

I've only made one other sweater before, and it was actually a summer top. It was made with cotton yarn, so it was a completely different experience.

I also added one sleeve, but it looks HUGE! I think I might redo the sleeves, or figure out a way to make them hang better. I'll have an update soon. :X:
