This is a teeny 10" x 10" baby blanket that I did for the Compassionate Knitting Project KAL. I had fun trying out the box stitch. I'm working on another one with the same yarn, but a different stitch pattern now.

Cute! 10 x 10!! It's still hard to grasp that that's big enough.

So small. Is it for preemies?

It's for the Compassionate Knitting Project KAL which involves knitting very tiny blankets and hats for babies that are born too early to survive. It is a way to reach out to their parents, so that they know there are people out there who care...who know that their little one does matter.

I wish I knew how to link this post to the Compassionate Knitting KAL...maybe one of the moderators will see this and help me out?? There is a better explanation of the whole thing there and not only that, but all participants' names will go in a raffle to win some lovely Noro Kureyon or Manos del Uruguay yarn on April 4. Woo hoo!

[
I love the pattern! Where'd did u get it?
I had seen other blankets just like it somewhere here on the forum....I think that liznwillow did one and someone else I can't remember.

From Vogue Knitting, here is the explanation of what they call the Five Square stitch pattern:

Multiple of 10 sts + 5 extra

Row 1 (RS): K5, *p5, k5; rep from * to end.

Rows 2-7: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.

Row 8 (WS): Rep row 1.

Rows 9-14: K the knit sts and p the purl stitches.

Rep rows 1-14

I just added a five row seed stitch border at the top and bottom and my first five and last five stitches of every row were also in seed stitch.

If you need me to explain it better I'll be happy to give it a try!!
