View Full Version : Ever feel...

a little overwhelmed when you log in the forum? I've been lurking for almost a year now (shame on me, I know!) :hiding: But since creating a log in name, I want to read and respond to everything that comes up as a new post! I've never really joined because I know I'll get sucked in. Then, I'll spend more time in the forum talking about knitting instead of actually knitting! I see all the new posts and I just want to go through every one of them. All of the sudden, its almost 11PM and I have to get up at 5 tomorrow! How do you pick/choose which topic to read? I haven't even ventured into the blog section yet! Must... stay... away... or I'll be on until 2AM!! :roflhard:

Don't worry April. The only people who can keep up with all the posts are KK and Ingrid. They are SUPER-KHers!!!! :-)

About getting sucked in... Don't worry about it! join us... We all just do our best around here to keep up. you know you want to.... . Sometimes we just have to pick and choose what specifically interests us. you don't need to sleepl...When I first joined, I would spend HOURS and HOURS on the forums just drink more coffee only to realize, later, that that was 2 hours I could have been knitting. you can knit while browsing the forums if you scroll with your toes... It's great that we're so huge we can't all keep up. being a KH zombie makes you cool... Anway we're glad you're here; doesn't matter if you post once, ten, or 100 times a day! KH is your life, don't deny it!

:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

many times i feel like i have to chime in on everything, a lot of the time i have to lay down some of my wacked humor, but for sure i get a kick just reading everyone's stuff. it really makes my day and i have learned a million things! :cheering:

That's exactly how I feel! Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

it really makes my day and i have learned a million things!
I do learn TONS of things. I actually learned more on this website than the Michael's knitting class I took! I just hope one day, I'll be able to give someone useful advice.

you can knit while browsing the forums if you scroll with your toes... I just had a mental picture of me and all the other knitting helpsters doing this. If only they had an emoticon for :laughedsohardalmostpeedmypants: but I guess this one will do. :roflhard:

Okay, one more post, then off to bed.

But suddenly, I have a sudden urge to make a pot of coffee so I can be cool.

02-27-2006, 06:10 AM
see? you're cooler already!

02-27-2006, 06:49 AM
So I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and by 4:30 I decided to get up. Soooooo, what do I do..............put a cup of coffee on and open a browser.
I wondered who'd be on at this ungodly hour. Andrea was.

Hildie summed it up pretty well. I promised myself not to start reading blogs, and when I found myself being sucked in  , I slapped my hands and pushed away from the computer.

When my eyes focus, I'll pick up my knitting and comtimplate the laundry basket overflowing with socks and underwear which needs to be folded and put away. sigh

I just can't stay away. Can't. And it's not just an issue of willpower--I love this place!! I get knitting tips, I just found a new pattern I love by thread browsing (love it when that happens), and I have to have a morning giggle! Plus I've made friends here, and I love hanging out with my friends, even if we're not online at the same time.

02-27-2006, 08:29 AM
I can't stay away either. I find myself checking this board more often than I care to admit----- but it's fun!! I do find the blogs intimidating- I had one for a while, but found myself feeling left out if people didn't respond to something I had said- and I know that's silly. I've found that for me, keeping up with the regular forums is enough- I generally stay out of blogdom, because then I feel like I have to read them all!!!
I love the feeling of community that is here, and seeing all the beautiful things that everybody makes. I can't imagine not being here!! (a gazillion time a day.......)

02-27-2006, 08:57 AM
:roflhard: :roflhard: Hildie!!

This is one of the reasons I'm here all the time, too--the laughs! I come into work 1/2 hour early everyday to get my time in here--that's 7:30 folks! It starts my day off right, I have to say. I, too, find myself staying up way too late just because I "checked in one last time before going to bed." Then spend the next two hours making up limericks or something!

It's a good thing that the 'management' frowns on personal computer usage during the day--the latest policy--or I'd be in every half hour.

I will say, though, that I no longer have sore hands from over-knitting because I take breaks here. I may not get as many stitches in a night, but the knitting means more to me now that I can share this addiction with people of like minds. I mean, who else is going to get excited by a pretty hank of yarn!

And Momwolf--you read my blog?!? I haven't even done that!! :roflhard:

02-27-2006, 01:28 PM
I feel the same way!! And there's so many things I want to remember and come back to, but I find myself searching and searching for them and trying to figure out a way to remember all the posts, patterns, links and everything else I want to go back to later. (Any suggestions?!)
And I find myself saying, "I'm just going to check one post" and then two hours later I have to force myself away. I'm like margie, I must avoid the blogs :hiding: ...I can't even imagine getting hooked on those...it's like a bad drug....one try and your hooked! :help: So therefore I must just say no! But then again...I could be missing some great knitting advice, info, stories, patterns...who knows.... hmmm...maybe it wouldn't hurt to just glance... :shifty:

well, oddly, i don't read the blogs unless someone specifically links to a picture on there or something along those lines. I can't get beyond the idea that it is like reading someone's diary and i know that is kind of the point it still makes me feel weird...lol. Plus there are just so many of them that i can't fathom how little work i would get done if i actually took the time to read that too!!!

i don't do the picture threads until i see that a new page is up and then i quickly do them all at once. So if i don't respond it isn't that i wasn't impressed, amazed, or amused (depending on which picture thread i am looking at at the moment) it's just that i am crashing through all of them at once!

i don't read threads where the subject line doesn't interest me....like i am not interested in making sweaters right now...so i rarely read those threads. mostly because whenever i have, i haven't known how to help or what was being discussed anyway!

and all i can think is that if i did read alllll the threads i would probably have some ridiculous number of posts under my belt....ya know like...10k+! :rofling:

I can tell you that I am addicted to this forum  (really sad for a person as young as me). I always feel excited about seeing the new messages :rofling:

It's amazing to see everyones posts gradually get larger everyday(exspecially Ingrids!) :rofling:

I love these forums though.. Lots of nice people who actually like to hear about your knitting ;)

02-27-2006, 03:51 PM
Well Kellys blog is almost like a community blog anyway! I always look for new posts there. since I work at a computer lab in fornt of a computer for up to 6 hours 5 days a week, I log in and start reading several times a day. Funny I don't know if I reply as much though

02-27-2006, 09:36 PM
I've almost become a lurker. I love to read everything.

02-27-2006, 09:44 PM
lol I feel guilty somedays that I can't post on them all and worry that someone might get offended that I didn't.. crazy I know..

I do look at the FO and love everything you all do such wonderful work but again I'm afraid I will miss someone so I don't usually post over there just look.. when it first started I tried to keep up but now I can't lol I'll take this opportunity to tell you all how wonderful everything looks and what a great job you all have done!! :cheering:

The blogs I don't tend to read unless something is pointed out.. I will read some of the pattern/how tos if its something I did or wondered about.. :D

Its hard to divide up the computer time while chasing 2 kids somedays I have more time and others I only have a few minutes... ;)

02-28-2006, 12:45 AM
I don't post a lot of answers in the help section, it takes me too long to get the instructions just right and by the time I post it, Ingrid has already answered. :rofling:

I check in at least once per day. I delete more things than I post. I follow the blogs because you people are hilarious!!

I get inspiration from this site every day. I read about musicians to listen to, places to go, products to look into. I read some incredible stories from brave and honorable people. Oh yeah, and there's all this great knitting info, too.

So while it may seem silly to have hundreds of friends that I have never met, I am very grateful to everyone who contributes here. You all make my days happy.

02-28-2006, 01:05 AM
I'm more of a lurker too but I love reading what people have posted. Talk about being on here longer than you should, I was just going to pop in and have a quick look. I really need to get to bed and coffee won't help me, 'cause I can't stand the stuff!!!

02-28-2006, 11:57 AM
KH is very addicting, but so helpful that it's worth it. Plus everyone here is so nice you can't help but wanting to spend more time here. Besides, like Ingrid said, who else gets excited over your latest yarn purchase???

03-01-2006, 12:35 PM
Know what I love  most about this forum? I have NEVER seen anyone flamed! Granted, we don't get to moral or preachy around here, and the OT posts are ususally just needing support, or sharing a laugh, but nonetheless, I've never seen a forum with such understanding and tolerant folks.
