I've decided to jump on the felting bandwagon, and try to make a Booga Bag. I keep hearing about felted bags everywhere I go, so I may as well see what all the fuss is about. ;)

I'm using a vintage wool yarn that I won in a 60's poncho kit on eBay for about 2 dollars. I just hope the yarn will felt. If not, it will still make a nice knitted bag. I will have to fix that one stitch where I changed colors after I'm done. It will be easy to do when I re-tie that spot.

Here's the poncho kit photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59646927@N00/47977726/in/set-1808355/

I don't really care for the colors, but I'm sure I'll be able to give it to my Mom or one of my step-daughters.

Wow, what a great deal -- all that yarn for $2!!!! It will make a really pretty bag!

Thanks, my friends! You guys are always great at encouraging my feeble attempts.

I'm especially proud of finding that yarn for just $2.00 total. I love to search eBay for "knitting kits". I'll find great deals, because lots of people don't like the kit. They just aren't thinking about all that yarn! I mean, you don't have to make what the kit designates. You can make anything you want!

This is 17 ounces of 100% wool, and I got it for 2 bucks. You can't beat that. Well, I guess you could if you had a sheep and sheared it yourself.

If you can raise a sheep for $2, you might get a better deal, but I think you're supposed to feed them. :roflhard:

Great find - that's an incredible price for all that yarn! Can't wait to see the finished bag - maybe yours will inspire me to finally hop on the booga bag bandwagon also. :D

Updated WIP. Here's a photo of my completed knitting for the Booga Bag. (I'm still making the I-cord. I hate to do those!)

The CD is placed on the bag to help you see the size before felting.

Congrats on the bargain and on nearly finishing. I can't wait to see how it felts (I really hope that it felts for you *keeping fingers crossed*).

Ok, so here is my finished Booga Bag!

I added the big wood button just for fun. I think it dresses it up quite nicely!

It turned out GREAT!!! I hate doing I-cord as well. I bought a knitting spool to get out of doing it! I find the knitting spool so much faster than i-cord!

Thank you! I am so surprised to see how nice it turned out. I was "crossing the line" by making it to begin with. The following quote was once typed on my blog, "I REFUSE to Felt!" (famous last words....)

The finished bag is beautiful!

When I saw your first picture, I first thought was,
"What a waste of such perfect tension, to be felted."

So now you have a hundred dollar bag.
What will you make with the rest of the (spectactual bargain) yarn.

Awww. You guys are making me blush! I am sooooooo proud of this pretty felted purse.

Lana, I'm not sure what I'm going to make with the leftover yarn. I think I might have enough to make another booga bag! :happydance:

Or, I might make the matching coin purse.

That color combo is so pretty and the button is a special finishing touch. What did you use to block it? It came out just perfect.

Thanks TamaraKnits! Your compliments make me so proud!

I blocked the bag with a box that holds 12 canned drinks. Not the long kind that dispenses cans in your fridge - the other type.

The box measures 10 1/2 inches by 7 3/4 inches, and it's 4 3/4 inches deep. I pulled the bag down one end, and kept pulling until it fit. It was a very tight fit, but stretched out the bag the way I wanted.

Thank you, my friends!

I took the Booga Bag with me this weekend when we went to see my husband's new granddaughter. When his daughter saw the bag, she really liked it, so I gave it to her! His other daughter wants one now too, so I guess I'll have to get back on that Booga Bandwagon again.
