A swift holds a hank of yarn while you wind it...

a ball winder winds it into a center-pull ball.

You can use one without the other, but they work sooo nicely together. :D

I am sick at myself, I spent way too much on a ball winder yesterday from our over priced and less than friendly LYS, and then today I bought my swift for half price... Oh, if I could have been patient, I could have gotten the ball winder for that price too...

The LYS has a no return policy... and I already have it set up and going.
