View Full Version : I'm a busty T-Rex! Crazy metaphor, eh?

I recently finished the copycat ribbed raglan pullover out of Ann Budd's The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1931499438/sr=8-1/qid=1143091920/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9872605-4499129?%5Fencoding=UTF8). It looked SO NICE before I put it on, and I  -ed :XX: it. When I put it on, the bust and the sweater length were perfect. :cheering: But, the arm length was too long despite the fact that the sleeves were perfect from armpit to cuff before joining them with the body.

After taking some very detailed measurements and reading up on some knitty.com articles, I've come to realize that I must be a busty T-rex!!! You know... the long-waisted, short-armed dinosaur?! :roflhard: You could fit a few cannoli in spaces between my bust and the raglan decreases! :roflhard: I'm a size XS/S when it comes to sleeve length and cross shoulder measurements, but size M when it comes to bust and neck-to-waist/hip. FYI: I knitted the size which has a finished bust of 36" with a zero ease (since it's ribbed on the sides). So, I thought I would err on the side of it turning out smaller. Yeah, right! Oh, and yes, I checked my circular gauge while doing my sleeves which turned out dead on.

Luckily, I can still wear the sweater -- it's not too bad. In fact, I plan on wearing it tomorrow night to SnB. The lessons learned here? MANY! When knitting close-fitting sweaters -- especially raglan or yoke sweaters, I plan on knitting a smaller size with short rows inserted for the bust. Also, I plan on decreasing stitches faster from bust to neck opening. In addition to sleeves on my raglan turning out too long from neck to cuff, my sweater turned out a little high on the neck, although the front split collar helps this to not look so bad.

What an adventure! This was my first sweater where I had to write down all the instructions based on Ann Budd's charts according to my size and translating her copycat pattern to my size. It was worth the lessons learned, but OMG!!!!

'Had to share!

Thanks for sharing! I know I certainly learn something new every time I knit something! And a Bust T-Rex, I conjure up some sort of strange image when I think of it. :roflhard:

Okay, so if you're a busty t-rex what does that make me? I am busty, have regular arms and a super short waist! I'll have to think on that. I just know I won't have as a cool a name for what I am than the one you get! :roflhard:

I looked in here thinking there'd be another knitting quiz. :rofling:

I think I'd be a flat iquanadon or something. No chest but big butt.

I'm SO enjoying all the comments.

Angela, I especially laughed when I read yours because I guess I hadn't really put boobs on my visual of the T-rex. Hee hee! :rofling:

Hmm... Does Gumby have long arms? I'm imagining Gumby with boobs... 'cause Gumby has long legs. :??

Tonight I posted a ton of FOs in Whatcha Knittin'
(see Baby Stuff (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11318), Sweaters (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11320), and Hat and Scarf (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11321)).

One of the sweaters I included is the one about which I wrote the original post. I'll add it here, too. Notice that I did NOT take a picture with me wearing it! When I knit a sweater that fits me better AND I'm actually wearing makeup, then I might include myself in a pic. LOL

Well it may not fit you, but it is lovely!
