Today, I bought 3 skeins of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK...so SOFT. :inlove:

I'm wanting to make a scarf so I can feel that yarn all the time when the weather is chilly.

Do you guys think the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern would work well with this yarn? http://www.helloyarn.com/irishhikingcarf.htm

Well, since it's DK weight it'll be a little thinner than the scarf made in worsted weight like the pattern calls for. Otherwise I think it would be fine! Though I'm not sure how many yards 3 balls is--I assume that would be enough for a scarf.

If I were to knit that scarf in DK weight, I would knit it in the round, repeating the pattern front and back. Make it double-sided. I did that with worsted wt yarn and it was a bit too thick for my liking, but with DK wt, it should be PERFECT!

Thanks, my friends! I'll let you know how things go. I know one thing - I'll enjoy knitting just to FEEL that yarn during the process....no matter how it turns out. Knitter's Heaven.

Sometimes that's the best part!!

Mer and Kelly K,

You were right! The Alpaca Silk yarn is not thick enough for that pattern. I'm thinking about switching to a pattern I saw on the Garnstudio Drops Design website that uses alpaca yarn instead.

I'm going to use a single strand instead of doubling, since the pattern calls for a finer gauge yarn. I think it will turn out nice! The photo below came from the website for the pattern.

I've decided to use a chunky yarn instead for the Irish Hiking Scarf. It is looking beautiful so far!
