The picking is going to be really tough! VERY fun, though! :happydance: I just know I won't make it out of the LYS without something for ME, too, every month...but, but that's okay, right?

Oh, and nice save, Debbie! :rofling:

you are just the most impatient group of people i have ever seen....lol!

Okay...the following people should have gotten an e-mail with the name of the person they are giving to. Please check to make sure i didn't give you your own name because i am more than a little scatter-brained tonight. Please make sure you get in contact with the person you have so they know someone has their name! Also, if the person who has you doesn't get in touch please e-mail us and let us know! (DO NOT POST IT HERE PLEASE!)

Sandra is sending out the other names as soon as she gets her little ones off to bed! ;)

OOOOH! We did the best we could to check for pet and smoke allergies but we may have missed some. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you check to see that the person you have isn't allergic to something obvious in your house.

Also! If you have someone who lives overseas (and yes that includes Canada! ) check to make sure you know how to address their packages to avoid shipping delays. If you aren't sure ask them

AND if you have questions you would like us to ask your secret person but don't want them to know who is asking...let us know and we will do that for you!

:happydance: I got my e-mail!! I can't wait to go pick out some yarn!!

Should we put return addresses on the packages, or will our location reveal our identity? Just a thought. But I'd hate for the pkg to get lost w/no return address.... :??

THANK YOU to Brenda & Sandra for organizing this!! :cheering:

brendajos
05-07-2006, 11:13 PM
I generally put my mother's address on it OR the address of the person that i am sending to.

I have also put completely fake addresses as well and have not have trouble but if it does get lost, there is no place for it to come back to.

I've driven across state lines to mail packages for Secret Santa things I've done in the past to get a postmark to throw off the recipient. ;)

OK, because I am a total doofus and didn't even check the KAL forum (for fear of getting sucked into one) this whole time and missed 11 pages of anxiety, I have a few questions:

1. Does the individual skein have to be worth our bracket, or just the total worth of the yarn (i.e. 2 skeins of $10 yarn if you are in the $20 bracket?)

2. What is the deadline to get said yarn sent? Is it a particular day of May, June, and July (we are doing this for three months, right?)?

3. Do we get a different person each month?

1. Total worth.
2. 17th of both months
3. Same person the whole time!

I don't think that I could handle doing that again. I kept stressing that I was sending to the wrong person  :roflhard:

Anyway! Everyone else should have their swap partners information. Just read what Bren said about the swap in the above posts and pretend like I said it. ;)

Have fun and let us know if you have any problems, that is what we are here for  Now as a special treat to all of you here is a pic of Bren and I after we finished sorting everybodies names.

I haven't recieved any emails at all. I didn't know there was a confirmation email to start.
I'm hoping my email was listed right and/or nothing is being blocked. I don't have anything set up for filters or blocking, and I keep checking my junkmail folder. Still haven't seen anything though.

05-08-2006, 12:33 PM
There was some mention that some people did have problems receiving e-mails at first.

The e-mail address the information was sent from came from: khyarnswap@yahoo.com

I did get a "warning" attached to messages from this e-mail address. But I was able to open it with no problems.

Frisky - you may want to contact Brenda or Min to see what is going on - they said they had sent all the e-mails last night. Hopefully you'll get it soon!

Hi frisky! You do appear to be on the list over on page 7 of this thread. You probably didn't get the confirmation email (there were some issues apparently) but it looks like your name was down so you are in the swap pool.

I guess some people were really fast to send off their swap email making everyone else worry / be jealous :rofling: Don't worry I'm sure the KHYarnswap mail will arrive soon - if not drop them a line and see whats going on. I think they said all mails will be out by 11th - so theres still a few days left for them to go through the whole list - its a big list!

Edit: Oops didnt see they had sent all the mails out last night!

I've never done a secret pal thing before. Is there a top ten of etiquette? I wanna be a really good secret friend. (I feel like a little kid).

kemp
05-08-2006, 04:34 PM
I don't know if there is a top 10 etiquette, but I can tell you what I got the most complaints about when I was a hostess for secret pal 7:

1. Not enough contact. Different people expect different amounts which can be frustrating. Try to at least meet the minimum if there is one set and more contact if possible.

2. Ignoring preferences. Even though you shouldn't "look a gift horse in the mouth" some people got upset when their pal sent yarn they had specifically said they dislike or didn't want.

3. It's hard to make sure, but we had some people send out what they thought was an anonymous email only to find out they had actually input their name at setup. Most accounts will let you change this...if a name is required, we suggested they use "secret pal" or "jane doe".

That's about it. I seriously doubt there will be any trouble here since everyone kind of "knows" each other. The secret pal 7 thing had signups from all over the place...not a single forum or organization.

Oh no I didn't check before I sent my email. Hopefully my swap pal didn't get an email with my name in it! I am soo sorry if you did!!

I have trip planned to my Lys now that I know what to look for. :happydance: I am going to have a hard time waiting until June to send it out. I am like that with gifts. Once I buy it I want the recipeint to have as soon as possible so they can start enjoying it! Birthdays and Christmas are so hard for me!!

Now that we have the names I keep thinking is it June yet??? I thought knitting was supposed to increase our patience.

This is what I get for e-mailing while stupid ladies! I have been informed that one of our lucky swappers has two people who are eagerly waiting to go shopping for them! I have the list of who is giving to whom at home and once I get there, I will straighten my mess out. Unfortunately, this means that some of you may end up with someone different than who you originally had. I do apologize for that and I will try my very very best to make sure that I don't do it again! This could explain why I have been nauseated for the last 24 hours I suppose. My body was telling me that I dropped my brain and forgot to have more than one person sending to MEEEEE! :rofling:

Just in case you are wondering, an e-mail went out to the group that I know is effected by this so if you didn't get it, as far as I know you are good but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...if you haven't already done so, e-mail your swap partner so that we can find out if this happened again...I was perdy dumb by the time i got home last night...lol

I ended up with a different person to give to, but I've kept the person I was receiving from. :o

I had already emailed my first contact, and now I'm emailing the other. Maybe I'll make friends with both of them! So, that means I'll actually get to know 3 people better. The one who is sending yarn to me, the one I was going to send yarn to, and the one I AM sending yarn to. :D

This is a great way for us to all get to know each other - especially those of us who are new to the group.

I'm really looking forward to what I'll receive, but I also think this is the hardest I've thought about a yarn purchase in a long time!! I want it to be JUST right and to give my secret pal some "grinning from ear to ear" kind of glee

Anyway....if you didn't get the e-mail read below. Heck even if you did...read again! Don't forget to be checking both your secret e-mail and your primary for messages!

Everybody should be in contact with their secret pal by now. If you have heard from them please make sure they hear back from you so they know they got through spam filters and the like. If you haven't gotten in touch with your person please do so. We need to make sure everybody is assigned appropriately and this is the best way to make sure we don't have any holes in the system (kinda like the big giant one I found out about last night!) Besides....we have people who are waiting in swap land without a friend and feeling kinda sad right now! Nothing is sadder than a lonely swapper ya know!

Let us know if you don't hear from either the person giving to you or the person you are giving to soon!

Since my post office is a dead giveaway of who I am, would anyone like to enter into a mail exchange with me?

We could do a couple different things.

#1-The yarn store here is nice and we can arrange a purchase through them and we'll ship it to your secret pal for you.

#2-You can wrap a package with your secret pal's address and then wrap it again (brown paper would be good) with my address on it. When it comes to me, I'll unwrap the outer layer and send it right back out.

PM if you're interested.

Okay y'all. The packages are OFFICIALLY suppose to go out in June for the first time. There is not going to be a date when we open packages for a couple of reasons.
One...I don't think y'all could take the pressure of knowing a package of yarn was sitting in your house unfondled!
Second....well I have enough people in my life torturing me with leaving packages in my house unopened until a specific date (ahem....Dustina!) and i would never do that to myself on purpose!

Sooooo if you got overly excited and thought the first package went out in May instead of June, you can work that out with the person you sent to in whatever way you would like. I just want to make sure that everybody gets at least two packages of goodies!

And wouldn't it be fun if we ALL started e-mailing Kelly that we had her....how long do you think it would be before her head exploded? ;)

I'm curious on how others are doing their pkgs.. I hate to just send yarn so was wondering if ya'll are including anything else or just the yarn.. wrapping the yarn or no?? I thought about wrapping the yarn and including some little things to go along  but wasn't sure what everyone else was doing.. I went to my LYS yesterday to browse and they changed their prices on me.. so now I have to figure out a new plan... ;)

carollovesyarn
05-14-2006, 04:37 PM
I am going to include some extras :happydance: , but I don't want to get too specific and give my identity away! These are outside of the price range - all of the designated range is going for yarn, but I haven't picked it out yet! I need to go to my lys next week and brainstorm with the owner - she's great at picking yarn out. I already have some of the extras I'm including. I may even send them earlier than the yarn, just as a little teaser. ;)

This is my first time as a secret pal and I'm wondering a couple of things...

I've seen it mentioned in a lot of different places (not just KH) that secret pals often include little "extras" in packages. How "mandatory" is this? I don't want my reciever to find me cheap if I don't match the "expected" as it might be based on me not knowing the inofficial "rules" of a swap/secret pal thing.

Am I, as a reciever, expected to contact my sender on a regular basis or is the "relationship" between the two of us on the sender's conditions?

I think this SWAP will be sooo much fun! And I want to do it "right"... :D I think I have the yarn picked out for my first delivery but I have to go look at the colours again!

KellyK
05-15-2006, 07:47 AM
Anna, the only "mandatory" is that you match the price range and that you have FUN with the swap.

My sender had the flu. :( I hope she feels better! But, she just told me she's sending me stuff based on a THEME! :happydance: I CANT WAIT MUCH LONGER!!!! :cheering:

yeah i think part of the joy of christmas is peeking. the thing is that i don't even peek at just my own. i peek at everybody's! I am more excited about surprises for them than i am for myself...lol.

my dad use to hide presents in the tractors when i was a kid. He had instilled a good healthy fear of them when i was little so i never went near them unless he was around. Presents always seemed exceedingly cooooold when we opened them up. of course that could be explained by a long trip from the north pole! :rofling:

butterflymama
05-15-2006, 10:20 PM
I am only admitting this once.

When I was roughly 12 years old I was left home alone with all of the Christmas presents for a WEEK before Christmas. There they sat all wrapped and just calling my name.

I opened every single one of them and wrapped them all back up.

But I was 12 so being the clever one that I was (you know how you know everything when are 12  ) I used the same tape and paper that my mom wrapped everything with and the tape did not line up exactly so it was totally obviously what I had done.

But I learned my lesson. Christmas was not nearly as much fun when I had already opened everything.

I never peeked again.

Did I say that I was also given a notebook full of wonderful patterns? They really make it special.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! (seems to be the sentence I use most lately ;) )

My pal has send me the first package and it's fabulous, fantastic, superduper, wonderfull, ...

She send me 6(in letters SIX!) hanks of Elsebeth Lavold's Silky wool in two colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheering:

I think a simple thanks is not appropriate, I feel more like :notworthy: and *jumping-around-crazy*!

The Burt's bees hand salve is great too! I remember the lip balm of it from my student exchange to the USA and the regret that I didn't bought more back then. I've got very dry lips and that balm was fantastic, I bet the hand salve is too!

P.S.: pictures tomorrow, cause it's already getting dark here(8:30 pm!)

Somehow I even managed to make an acceptable pic with this camera
Must be because the yarn is so beautiful!

Thanks again, pal! I've already searched the net for patterns and found out that a simple tank won't take much more than 300g!
Good thing, I have to wait before knitting with it. Otherwise I would probably put all other projects on hold

Okay, I am totally freaked out now!!!! I was under the empression that we weren't going to send out packages until June. Please tell me I am right so I don't have to panic. I don't want my pal thinking that I'm never going to send her anything.

I'm just having trouble choosing what to send her. I asked her about what she likes and after reading about her and her blog, I don't think I should send her what she said she liked. I'd like to send her some variety, but I just don't know.

KellyK

The packages MUST be sent BY June (17th?) some of us just couldnt wait!! Dont worry!
