I may be posting a teaser on the 16th and overnighting the package that day. GRRRRRR!!!!!

Oh noes!!

I ordered some yarn off ebay for my swap pal, and I got it today. But...it's not what I was wanting. (There wasn't anything wrong with the auction, I just...I don't know, had a brain fart looking at it and bid when I shouldn't have.)

Thankfully the seller will let me return/exchange it. Just sucks that now I've got to wait another week for yarn to send.

No sneaky pics from me... :(

Me too! I love socks! I'm just frustrated that I can't seem to get the gaps out of the stitches as I switch needles. I knit the first two stitches on each needle really tight! GRRRRRR

SOCK Yarn is the best! :cheering: :cheering:

~danielle~

KellyK
07-12-2006, 08:05 AM
Danielle... are you making plain, or patterned socks? Ive noticed that alot of stitch patterns, especially ribby ones, do a good job of hiding or getting rid of those gaps.....

horve1
07-12-2006, 08:31 AM
IMHO, if we do another, maybe have sock yarn as a choice, the way we did with the $ brackets this time. Doing only sock yarn might eliminate a whole lot of people who would want to be in otherwise.

KellyK

(Even though you can make things other than socks with sock yarn??? :( )

Secksiebrat
07-12-2006, 09:44 AM
Uhm I did 1 inch of ribbing and now I'm doing straight knit stitch. I'm not sure why I'm getting these "gaps" between the needles when I'm knitting the first 2 stitches very tight.

That's true, maybe we could have a sock, worsted, dk, and bulky category. Or, maybe we could just do a sock swap and a worsted swap and people could choose what category they want to be in.

Well, my pal had a request, so I had something to go by. Maybe we don't need categories so much as a more specific questionaire? Or at least 'what weight yarn do you prefer'.

I was thinking that it would be fun to do a dishcloth exchange. Im making one for my dd, and I thought it would be cool to get one from a fellow KHer, and I would love to make one for a KHer to show my  and appreciation. It's a fun stash busting project too!

I would have never tried the yarn I recived.. and then I wouldn't have a cable purse.... that mom is trying to figure out some way to put a zipper in :rofling: I like the surprise...

who is doing the next one? I prolly won't be able to do another one till after Christmas.. got school shopping for my little one :crying: and then Christmas gifts

Secksiebrat
07-12-2006, 03:21 PM
We could always do a christmas secret santa. Just pair everyone off and send a skein for christmas. Put it together in November and just senda secret santa. That might be fun and easy. After christmas we can do another secret pal exchange (maybe in feburary or something) after the christmas rush has worn off and we've all knitted our new stash of yarn up!

Just a thought as I'm totally having a great time and I love you ladies for putting this all together :) I think it has brought us all closer!

That dictaphone brought back a funny memory.

Once, when I was temping for the executive assistant to the president of a company, I had to do his dictation. During his monologue, I noticed that he was doing some strange breathing noises, and I thought, "How weird!" Then, I heard a FLUSH!

I can't believe he dictated his notes in the bathroom.

I love these hints! Dragon you are going to love that book. I bought it and read during my lunch breaks (when I should have been studying  ) it have since come in handy with all the tips and hints more than a few times.

Bren- That hint is awesome. I also have to echo the Cows and midwest comment... I laughed out loud when I read that. My poor husband looked over to see what was so funny and got his vamp (Dark ages of Camelot game) killed. :roflhard:

I have no idea who my partner is. Although she has been asking me all sorts of questions so I am dying to find out what she chose!

And finally I will be shopping soon. Being out of town really threw me off.

So! now that I am all caught up on these posts I look forward to seeing what all of these clues mean! You ladies are sneaky.

who could remain constant in our world? [No one could]
Today let us transcend the high mountain of transience,

Okay, lots of photos....
I CANNOT believe how well she knows me!!!!!
Oh my! Okay, she emailed me to let me know that my gift would probably be here today...so, I stalked the mailman, of course!
Went inside when the mail arrived and headed right back in (it was raining a bit  ) so I could take photos (last month I ripped it open outside) And, as I was opening it, Moshi (our cat) was helping....
Okay, each thing was wrapped in tissue paper and I opened them one at the time...very hard to do, by the way ;)
The 1st thing that I opened was this very cool bar of lotion :D ...in a nice round can...it works very well, too!
Then, I opened the package with 3 lovely pin :cheering: s!!!!!! (I can use these on my shawls, I think :D )
Next is the soy candle...chocolate covered cherries aroma :happydance: :happydance: ...how cool is that?!
AND......next......THREE SKEINS OF SWTC BAMBOO :cheering: :happydance: :cheering: :happydance: for a total of 5 SKEINS OF SWTC BAMBOO that she has given me...CAN YOU BELIEVE?!!!! I'm thinking this will probably be a lovely shawl.

Aw shucks.....Thanks, Kelly! That yarn is some of my very first spun yarn, and I wanted to share it with my Marceline!

It was SO HARD to hide my identity! I used my husband's email account, so I called myself Marvin the whole time. I thought it was so cool when I found out that Marce liked Marvin the Martian!

The hardest part for me was avoiding calling my hubby "Marvin" in any of my forum posts. I was sure Marce would figure me out.....so I called him "hubby" since June, and did a search in the forum to change his name in all my previous entries.

Now, I can be free to say his name again. :D

So when I got my pal's name, my heart sank a little. I was worried that I could never live up to the legend that is her husband, Lonnie. I have lived in fear that he would trip up my plan by coming home with an armload of SWTC Bamboo for her to work with and I would have to scramble to come up with something else. But given her reaction (ecstatic), I think I was quite successful. :D

I didn't put my name in with her final package because I wanted the magic to last a few more hours.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to my secret pal KELLY K! You totally rock! I feel so honored that you were my secret pal. Like I'm a cool kid now! I understand the first hint now, but what about the cars??

I got 2 skeins of Blue Sky Organic Cotton and 3 patterns. Plus a cute little bag from the infamous Chix with Stix!!

That organic cotton is oh so special http://bestsmileys.com/drooling/3.gif (<-- we need a drooling emoticon like this!! The one we have is funny looking!) You're right - nothing like the cotton I am used to. Now to decide what to knit with it!!

And I totally blame you now for my new addiction to MMMmmmmalabrigo (thanks to my fabulous gift last month)!! :inlove: I *need* more!!! Not sure my husband thanks you for that. He thought I was a nut when I started fondling the new skeins I bought.

Im SO glad you like it, Kristin!! (Did you have me figured out??) The cars are from Cermak Plaza, right down the street from me in Berwyn. ;)

I cant believe you havent said anything about the packaging I used.,.. I thought last month's was SURE to draw commentary! :roflhard: (I LOVE Sams club, btw)

Those 3 patterns are written especially for Blue Sky cotton... 2 skeins will make little Nicholas the Baby Bobbi Bear (he's easy.... knit mostly in the round!) or, if you get more, the cute tank or cardi. And, yeah... when you said "no cotton", I saw that you had been having a dishcloth-a-palooza. This is NOT for dishcloths! (yes, we DO need your drooling emoticon!)

I cant wait to see what you are going to make with that blue/green/yellow MMMmmmmalabrigo from last month! Arent the colors BRILLIANT? (you DID say you liked blues and greens... that's about as blue & green as it gets!)

MUAH! As I said in the card, it was SO fun to pick gifts for a new knitter AND a new mommy!

You have always been a "cool kid". :rofling:

I didn't have you figured out at all! As soon as I saw the envelope yesterday though, I knew!! AND I totally forgot about last month's package. For all to see here is the box I got last month!! :roflhard: :roflhard: :rofling:

As for what to make with the cotton, I'm not sure! The bear is so cute, but I love the tank and cardi patterns too. See now you are enabling because I am going to have to buy more. That's what this site should be called - "The Enabler"!! :roflhard:

I'm making a cute little felted purse out of the malabrigo. I've never knitted with wool before and this stuff is luscious!! :inlove: I wound it at my LYS and they were in awe of the colorway! He had never seen it and wants to order it.

Thanks again!! I just love this place!

:happydance: I'm so happy that you like your stuff, Rebecca! I couldn't have asked for a better recipient! And I'm especially happy that my idea worked in with your plans. Enjoy your yarn!

OMGOODNESS  You are the best pal, EVER :cheering: :cheering: LOL, after checking my email every 15 minutes after getting my package, I wondered when you were going to tell me who you are...LOL, I had no clue that you would reveal your name on the forum....very funny :rofling: :roflhard:
You, my friend...have nothing to worry about as far as Lonnie goes...he was very impressed with my goodies ;) As was I....obviously! You sure made this swap a LOT of fun for me...YOU'RE THE BEST swapping pal around  :cheering: :happydance: :cheering:

okay....I must admit I haven't kept up with this thread like I wanted to b/c I've traveled quite a bit this summer. Yesterday my secret pal emailed me to tell me my stuff is on the way and said that she left clues....unfortunately...I don't know how far back the clues start and there are so many--they all make absolutely no sense to me.

So to my secret pal....I'm up for a good challenge but I have no idea what clues are intended for me....please forgive me for my lame-ness.... :crying: I love guessing games but I don't know where to begin with this one. The only thing that stuck out is where someone posted a pic of blueberries....since you were sweet enough to send brownies to me last time, I was thinking maybe you made me a blueberry pie this time!! LOL!!

Lovely lovely LOVELY stuff, she is the BEST!!! Remember my hint I posted awhile back that said "DK"?? It was Debbie Bliss Cotton DK!! :inlove: She spoiled me!!!!!! Green (Purple :?? ) Gable, here I come!! :happydance:

Also included was some tea (which was awesome--already had a cup when I woke up!), stitch markers, some awesome purple/blue wool (which she had sent last month too--enough for some yummy felted something! Haven't decided yet--but it will be for me of course!), and some awesome sock yarn!

Before I show you though, I just want to say that I "had her" almost as soon as I got my first package. But she absolutely, totally convinced me I was wrong!!!

Becka (rebecca) was, and always will be, my Buddy! The bestest, most totally wonderfullest buddy ever! If I start trying to tell you how much happiness she has brought to me the last couple of months, I'd never stop. So here, for your drooling pleasure, is what Becka sent me this time:

I normally am a woman of few words :) (my husband would say otherwise).
But this needed an extended post.
Grab a cup of tea, coffee or the nearest alcholic beverage :)

Needless to say Monday was not a good day for me, My job includes getting yelled at on a regular basis by upset people. Iam tied to a chair for almost 9 hours. (blah blah blah blah).
I decided I would call home on my lunch break to see how things were, when this really happy voice squeals. (and all I caught the first time around is blah blah blah, package, blah blah). After much coaxing it turned into, OMG mom we got this huge package with a card on the front and can I open it NOW. Needless to say I was like..ummmm NO, not until I get there.

The rest of the afternoon dragged on forever.

When I got home I was barely in the door, and my daugher was dying to tear the brown paper open.

First there was the sweetest kitty cat card with a hint in regards to who my partner was.

Then inside were 2 huge shoeboxes. I let Allie have dibs at hers first. Now if you ask my husband Iam not a real emotional person, well I was crying like a baby by the time we were done. I didn't realize how caring people can be that I have never met.

Allies package contained a book (kids knitting) you must be a mind reader cause we just had this book from the library and I had it on a list of birthday/xmas ideas.
A pair of bamboo crystal palace needles (I don't even have any bamboo needles :) She was kind enough to let me try them :)
2 balls of the softest Kiddo yarn from Crystal palace.
A cute kitty cat tape measure.

After I was done being stunned by allies goodies, I opened mine...WELL..
I was totally blown away.
I was never really one to spend much on myself, and like alot of fellow knitters never had a chance to touch some of the lucious yarns we drool at on the screen.
My dream came true.
My package had a skien of Kemps gorgeous sock yarn.
Sock yarn dyed by Cindy H that was so incredible.
And 2 skiens of Blue Sky Cotton. (I have cotton yarn but not anything like this).
She was kind enough to send me a before pic of my treats , and took the time to wind everything for me (cuz I suck at ball winding). No one wants to see what happened to my last adventure with a skein).
Also included were a cat tape measure for me (good thing cause I may have had to "borrow" Allies) beatiful stitch markers and last but not least my very own skein of malabrigo for my keys. If I can get allie to give it up and stop rubbing in on her face..lol

Allies yarn was on her needles in a matter of minutes (she googled it and found the cutest beginner cape pattern.

Needless to say SARA JAYNE you are wonderful.
Thank You Thank You Thank You
I never thought this swap could by so fun and feel so spoiled. :)

Now for the pics :)
