Okay, I admit it...I've been seduced by blogging :D This being said, I began my blogging today. I have all sorts of questions, I can't seem to get the answers that I understand when searching on blogger....so, I come to you guys with my questions...TIA for the help ;)
Okay, how do you capture a link on blogger (http://www.blogger.com/home) like is done here (http://knittinghelp.com/)?! I've searched on blogger, but I do NOT understand the answer!!!

Also, haven't I read that we have KH buttons, how do I link from my blog to KH with the button?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Rebecca -

The basic code for a link is this:
what you want link to say (url)

So, a link to KH would be:
KnittingHelp.com (http://www.knittinghelp.com)

This is how you put a picture on and when you click on the picture you go to the site.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h97/sarajbc/Blog/KHbutton1.gif (http://www.knittinghelp.com )

You have to store your images on a computer or on line hosting site. The one I use is photo bucket. Here (http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h97/sarajbc/Blog/KHbutton1.gif) is a KH button - you are welcome to use the image off mysite (http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h97/sarajbc/Blog/KHbutton1.gif) if you want to.

I hope this helps!

Thanks so much...okay, how do I put the KH button on the sidebar?

sara_jayne

;) You just copy that code exactly as I posted it above (the one about the picture code

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h97/sarajbc/Blog/KHbutton1.gif (http://www.knittinghelp.com )

and it will pull the picture from the other site. You don't actually SEE the picture until you republish the blog.

If you look on the right side bar, second section, you'll see the button and how it links -- My blog (http://randomthoughtsandshots.blogspirit.com)

With blogger you can also upload pictures directly from your computer to your posts. I use this little trick if I want to add buttons etc.
1. Make a new post and add the picture in it(the little frame button in the panel)
2. In the code for the picture you can also see the address where it's stored
Now you can copy that adress and use it elsewhere. You don't need to save the post you just made, but I save it as a draft, just in case I forget where the picture is.

Thanks, guys! I've started my little blog. I'm sure I'm going to call on you for more help! I'm often confused my computer jargon..lol, if I could paint it or knit it or....interpret it in an arty or a medical way it would be sooo much easier! I went to school for respiratory therapy, for goodness sakes, I don't have the computer/electronics kind of brain...LOL!!

I was successful in putting a film loop in the footer, it wouldn't fit in the sidebar, so I was pleased with that. Now, I must have some photographic software...yeah, baby

Don't feel like a puterdummy - I just realized the link in my signautre doesn't really get you where you need to go  my fault!!!

Hopefully this will help you join the blog ring. Go to -

http://khbloggers.blogspot.com/

On the right you'll see "Join the Ring" section - click the "join" link in the small table. That will take you to the page to add it. Once you've joined it will give you some code that you can copy and paste right into your side bar to make the ring appear on your blog.

Here (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9173&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=blog+ring) is the orginal post from when the ring started. If you have any problems you can PM me or post them here!

It looks great Rebecca! I started one on blogger, but it is all so over my head, and I don't have time to twiddle with it, maybe this winter I can do more. I couldn't even figure out how to put the smaller font beneath the title of my blog like you have under your Whimsical Knitting.

Rebecca, I am so glad you asked that question. :) I used to have the code for links and then lost it when I had a blog at Xanga. I've had one at WordPress since January and need that code for some things.

Yea! :cheering:

Kristen, the smaller font usage is a part of the blog template that I chose, I didn't change the font size..I wouldn't have a clue as to how to do that...LOL!!! Were it not for you guys on here, I wouldn't have known how to add buttons, etc., although, it is easy once you find where it's done  finding it was a bit of an adventure...LOL!! Now, I'm off to try to join the kh webring :D

Okay, I officially blew the entire day playing with this blog...I so knew that was gonna happen :roflhard: :rofling: As if I don't need to knit Rose (http://artisokka.com/patterns/rose.html) for my sister in the next ten days so I can be ready to start on the Knitting World Cup  I better get busy knittin'....I was 1/3 finished with Rose, but the sts didn't look nice to me, so I frogged & cast on again last night...I could have been 1/3 finished by now, had I not been bloggin :roflhard: :rofling:

Wow! Thanks for that link! That might come in handy sometime!

I'm not sure of what you need or what you are asking and in any case I probably am clueless.

Rebecca, if you're going to post patterns in PDF format, you will need to find somewhere to host them -- blogger will host photos for free but I don't think they offer hosting for other kinds of files.

Once you have a place to upload them to, you just link them like any other hyperlink -- when someone clicks on the link, the file will open (assuming they have Acrobat Reader).

rebecca
06-05-2006, 01:23 AM
:D Thanks, that's exactly what I thought! Now...I must find a place that hosts this type of file. I have a premier acct with photobucket...but they just do photos & videos....as far as I know, I'll have to check it out :D This means I'm gonna have to start writing patterns instead of just notes, huh  ?!

kemp

Most internet providers give you some disk space when you sign up. If yours does that, you could just upload them there.

rebecca
06-05-2006, 01:27 PM
Thanks, Kemp, I'll check into that, of course....this is a future thingy, I was curious as to how one does this :D

rebecca
06-05-2006, 01:35 PM
Okay, I just looked into it & my ISP does provide service for such things as hosting file! Thanks so much, Kemp :D

rebecca
06-28-2006, 06:54 PM
Well, today I found out that my ISP stores files, but doesn't host them, the files are all pass word protected. So, I'm either going to go with a 3rd party to host files, pdf for patterns or switch to another bloghost that offers file hosting...typepad and blog-city come to mind.
