My cousin is having a baby shower next week, so Ive decided to knit some things. Ive been working on a blanket with some thick yarn, but have noticed that I would need to buy more skeins to finish it.

Looking around my craft room, I noticed lots of different chunky yarns. So, I decided to fill in some space with a different yarn. When I did a few rows with the new yarn, I was pleased. It felt so good - so interesting. I imagined that a baby would enjoy feeling the different textures as well.

So, I started adding different yarns, for an amazing textural effect. Im only using washable yarns, because every mother knows a baby blanket should be ready to throw in the washer and dryer.

This blanket is so much fun to touch!

Sandy's "Gotta Touch It" Baby Blanket

Color D - 1 skein Lion Brand Velvetspun - Light Blue

Start by casting on about 50 stitches.
Knit every row, with this color plan:

10 rows Color D
10 rows Color C

If you want, you can add a border of single or half-double crochet all around with one of the yarns. (I used the Wool-Ease Thick & Quick for my half-double crochet border.)

Beautiful, Fast and Fun to Touch!

What a good idea Sandy!

My grandson is 7 1/2 mos old and loves to touch fabrics. He scratches away when one texture changes to another. I just know your cousin's baby is going to love that blanket! ;)

I sure hope so. I remember when my boys were little, they loved to touch things too. I've also heard that babies like contrasting colors, so I think this will fall into that category as well.

I know one thing - I LOVE to work on this blanket. It feels like heaven in my lap. :inlove:

You're welcome Jenelle. I added a line at the bottom of the pattern today to add a crochet border if you want. I think that will help to make it look complete.

I'll post a photo when I finish mine. I'm at the halfway point tonight.

The blanket turned out great! Such a good idea--any baby would be fascinated. Except for the one laying on it. May want to get that one to a doctor. ;)

Thanks Holly!

Funny thing - my mother doesn't like it. Figures.

She came by last night to pick it up, and started criticizing my choice of colors. She said, "You did know it was a girl, right?"

I said, "Yes, but I'm sure she'll be grateful for something besides pink or purple. She'll probably get a truckload of those colors."

My mother was unconvinced. Oh well. She's never appreciated anything I've ever done in my life, so I'm not surprised.

I'm so glad I have you guys in here to encourage me. You are my replacement for therapy. :D
