YAY at last - I finished the neck last night and sewed in the loose ends this evening. My brother took the pics - excuse the mess of my hair, I had it cut today but then shoved it up to keep it off my face for the sewing in; forgot to let it down for the pic =P

definately "handmade" not "homemade".

What a great expression - my DH was just commenting on my starsky and saying how it doesn't look "homemade" but also doesn't look like something you could buy in the shops either! I think that "handmade" expression just about sums up what he was trying to say nicely! :D

Isn't it nice when something you made yourself is so good people can't quite believe it's homemade!

Beautiful jumper - I really like the shape - it is so flattering - might just have to add it to my to do list!

What pattern did you use?

Thank you all for the lovely comments =D I'm so happy to have finished it and feel like I made a real achievement! You are all great for the ego boosting

Sue, I used Bombshell from the book Big Girl Knits (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0307336603/qid%3D1151328723/026-7212868-6202006) There are other patterns in there I want to try too. My fingers need a little rest first though! =D

WOW :inlove: It's great!!!!!!!!

That was one of the tops in BGK that I wasn't too sure of, especially with the short hemline and the ribbing... but you look FABULOUS! Maybe I'll try that one!

I'm going to be doing the wrap/cardigan starting in a week or 2, for the Year of the Sweater KAL... you should do it too!!! It looks complicated a little, but we can work on it together :-) :happydance: Are you in??????

Yes I'm in! I want to make that too. Right now I'm working on Soleil, (don't tell my swap pal; I'm meant to be doing the scarf now =O) - one thing I did NOT do with Bombshell was short rows across the bust - I fully intend to do these on Soleil.

Now, I'm very pleased with all the compliments you are all giving me, but I look at the pics and there are a couple of things that stand out for me (apart from the boobies!). The first is that it is rising up slightly at the front over my extended belly - this is because I did not put short rows in over the chest area and I certainly should have - it does look OK tho, but not quite as shapely as I'd have liked.

Another is that it does look like it is pulling over the girls and the slight puffy extra material at the front on the armpits. Now again, this is down to not using short rows over the chest area. I did extend the length of the sweater, generally I like mine a little longer but I don't think that would have been necessary if I'd done the short rows.

With the ribbing - which works SO well I have to say, I'd probably have used a size 4 needle instead of a 3 - you can see it when its lying on the table that the ribbing totally pulls it in. Not necessarily a bad thing, but for me I really am an apple shape and its a bit too tight across the belly I personally prefer a little ease - its likely it will stretch with washing though.

There are a handful of obvious but small mistakes which you won't spot unless you have the sweater there with you to inspect closely =P Lastly the colour just isn't working for me - I love it, it is a great colour but on me? Meh, it just isn't me so this first Bombshell is going to my mother who has admired it greatly from first stitches cast on to the last stitch cast off - it also fits her perfectly and the colour is very her.

I do know I am my worst critic, don't get me wrong I'm very proud that I managed to do this, not just because its a great garment but because I've learned SO much - the biggest lesson was the short row shaping of the bust, it is a mistake I won't make again and will put into practice on Soleil - we'll see how that one turns out, it is very much an experiment!

The Big Girl Knits Yahoo group is currently voting which should be the next item for their knit along - at last checking the wrap was winning :cheering: so that could be another source of help if we get desperate :roflhard:
