 Good to know! Add that to the fact that I don't eat anything that will make my hands dirty, and often will forsake a meal to finish something, it adds up!

How did you figure this out? What's the amount burned for 122 lbs?

Probably fewer if you weigh less. I think that's how it goes...

How many calories do we burn just sitting? 60 or so on average?

go to caloriesperhour.com It will ask you the basic questions, gender, age, height, weight, etc. Look for the calories burned per activity chart or whatever it is, and you should be able to get your personal number of calories from there.

Have fun!!!

Wow, there are websites for everything!

And for me, sitting quietly I burn 64 calories an hour.

Knitting, I burn 95 calories an hour.

Every little bit helps :D

I burn 114 calories per hour by knitting. Now I must knit more so I can burn more calories... since I am unable to excercise by conventional means. This opens all new doors! :cheering: :cheering:

Ooh, I burn 146 calories/hour knitting. So now I just need to find a way to knit for 12 hours straight and then I should be good. :shifty:

I was doing the same calculations in my head, Ven!

I'll use just about any excuse to knit more. ;)

Has anyone ever tried knitting while on a treadmill or reclining cycle? I have to join the gym, but would really rather knit. I think I've heard of people knitting and walking, so it should be the same, right?

92 calories per hour for me. Guess I gotta keep going to the gym. I wish I could knit while on the elliptical trainer. It would make me a lot more motivated to go... I must say, though, that a good project keeps me from eating cookies because I don't want to get crumbs on my fingers. Maybe we should promote knitting as a new diet fad? It'll have to have a catchy name though - "The KnitFit Diet - Keeps your fingers working instead of snacking..." :roflhard: I kill me sometimes with my crazy brain...

I guess I burn 78 calories while knitting.

And 52 while sitting quietly. But...I hardly ever just 'sit'. I'm always shaking my foot or leg (I fidget a LOT).

...Hmm, lets see if they've got anything for that...

[ETA: Well, nothing for fidgetting. But, since I work tech support I'm on the phone too. So that would be 78 an hour.

Jeez, this thing has a LOT of activities. :rofling: :rofling: ]

I'll have to get rid of that M&M bag I keep by my side! I pretend it's to help me keep track of what row I'm on...:shifty:

Cool calculator. I discovered that I burn more calories knitting than having sex.

[Which is more disturbing - this discovery or the fact that I looked it up?]

I don't know if I should be ashamed for this or what. (And this will tell you how obsessed I've been over knitting or crocheting)

I have actually tried to workout on my personal stepper machine at home while crocheting a scarf (the yarn was in a basket on a table beside me). I don't think I would try a treadmill for fear of gears moving and dropped yarn causing something bad and dangerous to happen. The problem is that the sweating makes the yarn a little damp and it doesn't move through your fingers as well. And if you use a yarn that sheds, it may shed a little more onto your fingers and stick there and on your workout clothes.

My husband can't decide if I am a big dork or just a really dedicated yarn freak....

Probably the fact that I was considering to look up my own as well? :roflhard:
