View Full Version : Teddy bears... knit flat?

I just picked up a copy of a book of knitted teddy bear patterns, and the first thing I noticed was that all the patterns are knit flat. I'm not deathly allergic to seaming, but I'd just as soon not do it when I don't have to. (Besides, all the tiny needle sizes the patterns call for I only have in DPNs. ;) ) Is there a reason not to knit easy things like arms and legs in the round? I'm sure the designer has her reasons, but since she hasn't seen fit to share them with me, I'm wondering if anyone else is willing to enlighten me.

Some people are scared to death of knitting in the round, so I say if you feel comfortable changing the pattern, go for it. It's a teddy bear, after all, and all teddies are acceptable--it's not like they have to fit anyone. ;)

So there's not some magical stuffing reason to knit flat? I've never done stuffed things before, so I'm worried there's some underlying stuffing wisdom I haven't yet acquired...

I can't think of any reason not to knit in the round.
