Ok this is my first time with a chart so I need HELP! I'm looking at the Aran Rose pattern from Spring Interweave Knits, page 60. Well the chart I'm looking at is on page 62, but anyways. Ok, there are eight sitches on the chart like normal, then the next 10 stitches are boxed in red and it says Pattern Repeat. Then there's the last stitch. So, does this mean I only repeat the stitches in the red box or do I repeat all of them? Lemme write the stitches out so maybe it'll be clear.

I'm starting on the WS row:

P,K,p tbl,k,p tbl,k,p tbl,kp,p,p,k,p tbl,k, p tbl,k,p tbl,k,p tbl p.

So the red stitches are the repeat pattern, hope that helps. And I know my question sound dumb, but like I said it's my first chart pattern!

You work those first 8 stitches, then work the 10 pattern repeat stitches over and over until you have one stitch left, then work the final purl.

The right side rows are worked left to right, remember. ;)

WS rows are worked left to right.

Patterns used to confuse the heck out of me, but once you get the hang of them you'll never go back.

You've probably been told this already, but putting a post-it above your current row is a really good way to keep from getting lost.

Good luck, you can do it!

Very often a chart won't even show the wrong side rows if they're just purled across. Sometimes the ws rows are just empty boxes--also purled. I suppose I could try to find my copy of the magazine so I could be more specific, huh!

And I totally agree with AncreeAce--once you do charts, you never want to go back.

ETA--In this chart, the first row is a ws, so you start left to right, and every row is charted, so just follow that. Also, when you work the right side, you'll k1, do all the pattern repeats that fit until you get to the last 8 stitches, then work the rest of the chart.
