The booties and blanket pattern at Fabulous Yarns are cute, simple, and free. Look here:

I've purchased from her before, she's easy to deal with.

My first baby project was a hat, booties, and baby washcloth.

There are lots of easy patterns online. Just look through the patterns at Knitting Pattern Central! (http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/baby.php).

Here is a simple pattern for making a baby bib

I made this sweater for my neice and I thought it was really easy to make. http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/babysweyokecard.htm

Once I made some hats and baby socks (little socks tend to stay on better than booties in my experience) I started on toys... Jean Greenhowe has some wonderful dolls! Garnstudios has some lovely children's clothing patterns for free on their sites.

Thanks for finding this pattern. I bought a ball of this yarn and was looking for a pattern for a co-worker who's daughter is having a baby shower this weekend!!

I love this sweater, and it has fit her for so long. I would suggest knitting it a little longer than it says. It would still fit her except it is to short.

hmmm well I'll just have her give it back so I can add more to it when it is too small. Thanks for that tip
