View Full Version : As if I didn't have enough to do...

I've got an old spinning wheel that has been calling to me. It's been "decoration" for I-don't-know-how-many years, but I'd love to learn to use it. I know it needs a drive band, the legs fall off every time we move it, and the flyer needs to be fixed (I have the other half), but can someone tell me what type of wheel this is and what I need to do to make it functional?

Oooo, pretty. It's a castle wheel. Single treadle... Don't know the maker. Maybe try googling "spinning wheels" and look at makes to guess the manufacturer? Woolery.com is a good start. They have pics and details about spinning wheel parts.
Definite must to fix flyer. Will need to make an orifice hook. Give it a new waxing to make it pretty. Drive band. Other than that, if it treadles and sucks up the singles onto the bobbin, then it works. Well worth the fix up time.
